could be one of several things causing it,blocked pollen filter causing evaporator to freeze, low pressure especially if it has not been used over winter the seals need oil in system circulating to maintain a good seal or even a dodgy pressure switch.

best thing to do is get to a garage that charges a/c so they can recover, vac down and regas system they should also change pollen filter.it is impossible to diagnose the problem without looking at the car.

    Gas leaks out over time,

BillTrac, how can someone diagnose the fault over the phone? MY aircon doesnt work. its the ???

Could be a sensor, could be low on gas, faulty fan ,switch.etc etc etc..

I probably worded it wrong. I didn't mean they would, or could diagnose it over the phone. I just thought they might be able to advise on what to do, or look for.

Ok, got it recharged, and nothing. Went to Kwik Fit and their offer means it was free. :D

But still no air con. :(

When turning it on the revs don't increase when idling like it should. Apparently. Bloke at Kwik Fit says it could be the motor or something? Or maybe a fuse? I dunno. :undecided He said there are no leaks or anything.

Guess I'll have to take it into Fords. :(

I'm gonna check the fuse and relay but can anyone tell me whether it's safe to change the relay? My manual says "the replacement of relays requires specialised knowledge". :undecided

so long as you have got some common sense you should be ok to change relay, they are just a push fit.
make sure ignition is off and you refit relay same way it came out.

dont bother going to ford if the relay/fuse aint the problem, have a look for a local auto electrician to diagnose the fault will be cheaper than main dealer.fault could be clutch on compressor, wiring or pressure switch fault in my opinion but an auto electrician should be able to tell you.

It's good for the first 5/10 minutes or so, then it's exactly just the same as having the blower on the coldest setting. Light comes on the button and everything.

Is it a simple case of getting it recharged? :undecided

    Edit: It's a Focus

Update: Ok, got it recharged, and nothing. Went to Kwik Fit and their offer means it was free. :D

Do you hear the compressor clutch clunk as you switch on the A/C?. You should see the inner part (where the belt is) of the compressor pulley rotate with the engine, but the outer plate of the pulley only turns when the A/C compressor comes on.

Sounds the same symptoms as my mates Mondeo. With his fault the compressor clutch wasnt operating and seems to be a common fault (on Mondeos). We took the front of the pulley off and found a shim behind which was replaced for a thinner one, problem hasnt been seen since. Only took about 30 mins to do.
Try a search on google for focus compressor clutch.

Only a suggestion, but it might help.
