Things to see or do between Calais and Paris?

We are going to Paris next weekend with the Sun holiday offer and our ferry leaves at stupid o'clock in the morning, so we will be in France by about 8am.
We can't book into the campsite until 4pm, so wondered if anyone had any ideas for distractions en route.
We will be heading to Pierrefonds castle during the weekend, so that's one base covered.

OP, perhaps you need to post your interests.
I could suggest taking the coast road a short way towards Dunkirk. Or even the opposite direction towards Bolougne where there is a WW2 museum which I found quite interesting. Neither is much out of your way.
Or just visit Cite Europe and shop.
Without knowing what you like/dislike no-one can suggest anything that matches what you would like to do
Either way enjoy France.0 -
Are you going to La Crois De Vieux Pont?
If so, you are right in World War 1 territory.
Go and see the battlefields and graves - there is a Canadian memorial where they have preserved some of the trenches and about 10 minutes from the campsite is where the armistice was signed. It's very interesting there."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
yes, Cite Europe is good for shopping, but I wouldn't want to spend all day there, I think 3 hours or so is plenty, I like shopping, but more than 3 hours is too much personally. In Boulogne (in the opposite direction) you have the Nausicca aquaruim which is good for a visit. Nice little town too, been there more than once. Yesterday after visiting Cite Europe we headed towards St Omer in a way, and than from the main road, took a countryroad and saw what we could see, we found a lovely little walk, which was enjoyable, but it depends what you like. After rejoining the road, we drove towards Dunkirk, but stopped at Gravelines a for a quick wander before catching the ferry. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

Tarry, never suggested a full day at Cite Europe. Personally I prefer a quick visit to an Auchen...as a bloke I find Cite Europe a bit boring apart from the booze and the Audio Visual stuff..:rotfl:
And I hardly call Boulogne the opposite direction if you want to be picky..;)0 -
No, I didn't mean that you had suggested a whole day, was just saying from a women perspective
lol I guess Boulogne is not really in the wrong direction

But I thought that women could make one shop last all day..;)
Or does it just seem like it??0 -

You lot made me laugh. I think I could make a visit to the Cite Europe Carrefour last all day
We love Nausicaa, in fact we were there only a couple of months ago with the £19 tunnel offer.
I was thinking more of something as we were heading more in a sort of southerly direction towards Paris. I want to be away from the ferry ports ASAP.
Not shopping, unless for essentials like bread and brioche
We like history, nice views, walks etc.
mrcow, we wanted that site, but we got Chene Gris. Which is fine with me as it's just a base really. My main mission is Pierrefionds castle where Merlin is filmed.0
