PAYG without monthly top-ups??
Hi. I am a very occasional mobile user. I had an old Vodaphone PAYG tariff where one of the conditions of use was to make one payable call every 6 months or else you lost your credit. Needless to say, I've slipped (well) over the 6 months & they've now de-registered the SIM. Is there anyone else who does a similar package? I've read loads of different company's T&Cs & they all now seem to want you to top up every month. I've not doubt that 10 million free texts are of some use to some people but not for me. I just want a phone I can leave in the car & use if there's an emergency!
TIA for any help.

No you dont need to top up every month. but if you do they give you free texts and minutes etc.
but you will have to make or receive call once in every 6 months(180days).
if you dont make too many calls than i would suggest you to get asda mobile sim card. its only 8p minute comapred to other networks 20 to 30p. or tesco mobile and tell them to change your tariff to pay as you go lite. call charges are 8p too.
and you can still reactivate you vodafone sim card. if you want to keep the number. some network charge you small fee. i know t-mobile charge you £100 -
You have to make a regular chargeable call to keep the SIM active. If you do not make a call in a period of 180 days, your number is suspended but can be reactivated with a top up and a chargeable call. If you do not use the SIM for a period of 270 days, you will lose the number and any remaining credit.
If you only receive calls on the number, you still need to make a regular chargeable call, or you will still lose the number.
This is because as a company, they are running a business and cannot keep a number on the network which is not being used.0 -

its make or receive. its in the terms and condiotions.
otherwise my dads t-mobile sim would have been blocked by now because he doesnt use mobile to make calls. just to receive them. he hasnt made one call in last 18 months from his mobile:rotfl:0 -

That is incorrect, you need to make a chargeable call, not just receive a call.
This is taken from Vodafone's PAYG Terms and conditions.
(c) you choose not to use the Service for a period of 180 days (‘use of this service’ means (i) making any chargeable outbound calls (excluding calls to 191, see your price plan for charges) or (ii) any topping up of your account);
If you do not make a chargeable call during the period, you will lose the service.0
