Paying a refundable deposit under the premises you receive it back when you get there to find out that this is only refundable against photos is dishonest and a scam
You dont get it do you, this ONE example is a scam, yes, its dishonest, however, that in no way makes every photoshoot place a scam and to say so is naive.
The majority of complaints on here are about genuine legal companies, and its merely people who regret buying from the hard sell. And as said nothing wrong with that.
MY example for instance, i didnt have to spend a penny, got my shoot, got my pictures and i decided to buy one small picture and kindly said no to everything else, nothing dishonest about it.
I get the feeling you have been duped?
Is this deposit thing for this company? if so why did the op not mention it?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
nope not been duped just hate the way others have been by this0

I wouldn't call it a scam, I would call it emotional black mail.
You get these brilliant photos, then you put on the spot to buy them there and then at a stupid price! You cant even leave the room to discuss it or your photos are deleted.
My advice to anyone going to a new id photo shoot. Don't bother!Mystery Shopping MB and casino bonus' July 10 = £982.500 -
Getting back to the original question, I was always under the impression that if you bought a 'personalised' or custom-made item, the usual SOGA rules don't apply in respect of refunds. However, I could be wrong!0

I wouldnt say its a scam, your not exactley forced to buy them are you, you can say no, some people are better at saying no than others
Under your logic, there is no such thing as a "scam". Just because some are more complex and/or convincing than others doesnt mean its not still a scam. See below:
scam(scam)
Pronunciation:/skam/
noun
informal- a dishonest scheme; a fraud
however, going back to the OP, if you signed on/in their normal place of business, then you do practically have no coolling off period. Again, see below: http://whatconsumer.co.uk/cooling-off-and-cancellations/You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
