You wouldn't need to make contact with him over criminal damage-the police can do it! Had a similar problem and called police(they stated neighbour dispute, not interested!!) phoned solicitor who told me to get back on to the police as it was criminal damage and they should act. This time they did and he got a police caution for criminal damage and had to replace the hedge that he removed-he was a teacher so caution showed on his record too! He has since moved and we now have great neighbours.Do appreciate that it would be quite difficult to replace a 6' hedge though-although I think it would be reasonable to demand that HE pays for a 6' fence/posts etc.
As long as he is allowed to get away with everything he is doing then he will continue to do it-make a stand and show him that you will not tolerate this any longer.

I am not sure how reducing the height of a hedge could possibly constitute criminal damage. The op has not specified who owns the hedge. In my personal experience of hedges they have been shared items which both parties maintain for their personal amenities. Having said that, this person sounds like a really nasty antisocial bit of work. You have my sympathy op.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    Thank you.

He is a very peciliar person.
I cut off all contact with him many years ago when one of my neighbours, who lives directly opposite to him, was forced to report him for having a telescope pointing at her bedroom window within a week of splitting up from her husband.
4yrs later, he called the police saying I was an elderly, sickly woman and he believed I was dead in my house. I'm far from elderly and in absolutely rude good health, but the first I knew was when I had a call on my mobile from my home phone number. It was the police who had smashed my front door in to gain access. Not the kind of call you need at 11am when you're at work 20miles away. The neighbour's response to all this, which was witnessed and reported to the police by the joiner who was fitting my new front door, was "This wouldn't happen if you told me where you're going and when I should expect you home". As if that isn't enough, until he announced himself, I wasn't allowed under data protection to know who had reported me dead.
You can see now why the police take privacy issues very seriously with this individual.

believe me, if my youngest brother paid him a visit, he,d be very quiet (or gone) after that.

Yep, and his misses would have just the right amount of foundation on her face - she'd be burried under the house! :D
