Internation Data Roaming - Fixed Price ?

I have a blackberry, i like using my blackberry, collect email, bbm, etc.

what i don't like is the excessive data changes you get when you are abroad.

i am currently with Vodafone, they have a £5/£15 per 25mb split depending where you are which is only going to go up in june.

i've heard of people having some form of bolt on or add on that allow them to use there blackberry in different countries for a fixed price. Does anyone know which companies do this, and if they are any good ?

all i really want is to using my blackberry for emails and messages and not to worry if i have hit the 25mb limit for the day before getting charged again.... i've already asked if vodafone have a international blackberry bolt on and they already said they don't offer that service.:embarasse

So if you have heard about this form of bolt on, why did you not ask the people that informed you of it, data abroad is expensive and the only cheaper option I have found is to get a local payg sim, always beats any roaming offer at the time.

Hoping the reason why i didn't ask the person that told me about the fixed bolt on will help; but i was at a group event, and the person that said it was a friend of a friend, and i forgot to ask which company they were with. I have already ask my friend to find out, but this is taking a little time as i've been told the person is on holiday, so was hoping the general forum like this might have a person who has heard of this before.

Data Roaming is expensive, and yes i agree a cheap option is a local sim, but the main reason this came to light is that in other countries the Blackberry service is offered on a international level, so as long as you only use the Blackberry service abroad, its deemed to not to be a standard data call but a blackberry service, thus not incurring a data charge.

a PAYG chip can not be put in to your own blackberry phone without it de-registering your from the blackberry services as your blackberry pin is tied to your mobile number, so if you switch chip its an expensive phone call to customer service to re-register yourself.


So maybe the forum title is a little wrong, i should be asking if anyone knows which mobile phone companies offer international blackberry service.

Unless you're going crazy with a BB abroad, it is actually very cheap to use, due to the way everything passes through the BB servers and gets compressed. On the odd occasion my wife and I have taken our BB's to the USA, a week on BBM, odd email, costs about £10 on top of our usual monthly costs.

A BB pin is tied to the handset, not your provider. So you can change sims all day long, as long as each one has BB service enabled, you'll stil get your BBM's, and email once you re-register via the handset with the new provider.
