New phone through carphonewarehouse instead of upgrade?

Hi,

I'm up for renewel from my T-Mobile G1 and fancy the HTC Desire. I'm currently paying £20 and month and online through the T-Mobile site I can upgrade for a £250 one off cost.

I've rang customer services to see if I could negogiate it down a little only to be told there's no way I can have it (even online) unless I pay £35 a month. Seems like a load of lies to me but they wouldn't budge, I can get as far as the accept t&c's and confirm button, seems a bit odd they would stop me after that point.

I can get a good deal with carphone warehouse (+ quidco) on T-Mobile for only £15 a month for a better tariff ! I would prefer to stay with T-Mobile for signal quality reasons.

Am I likely to encounter problems doing this, as I believe I won't be able to use my PAC code as it's the same operator, so i'll need to cancel my current contract through other means. Is there any chance of keeping my number?

Thanks !

Andy

Only way I know you can keep your number is to request your pac code, take it to another network PAYG sim (O2 ones are often free), then wait 30 days I think and request pac from o2 and sign up to contract via carphone warehouse.

Nothing to stop you taking out a second contract with t-mobile if youw ante the phone now but then it might be tricky to move the numebr to it later.

Ok, sounds like the easiest thing to do then is just sign up again and forget about keeping my number.

Wish they'd allow me to upgrade at a reasonable cost without going through this faff.

    Thanks for the advice.
