As above, would have had to have had a credit check (That's a mouthful!).

OP I think someone needs to have a sit down with your niece and explain the consequences if she is not telling the truth I.E the salesperson could lose their job all because she she didnt want her mum to get angry because she took out a contract
  • I have to say, I was a victim of something very similar in an Orange shop last weekend, and I'm 31, so I think your niece is being honest - it's a sales tactic!

I was missold an iPhone - I agreed to the quoted price (£99 for an iPhone 3GS over 18mths at £30p/m) and was ushered to sign the contract, then I was taken to the till to pay for the phone and the iPhone turned out to be double the price quoted - £189! Orange are not transparent about the price of iPhones on their 18 month plans and as customers we are reliant on the honesty of the sales advisor. The sales advisor was obviously hoping I'd just shrug and pay the difference, but I cancelled there and then as he was clearly trying to rip me off. I have had an entire week of problems with Orange trying to revert my old phone back to it's PAYG settings to the point where I haven't been able to use it all week! I have written about my experiences on my blog, but as I'm a newbie on here I can't post links yet :(

After 10 years of loyalty to Orange, I've requested my PAC code and I'll be moving to another network - I'll never trust them again!
  • I know on Vodafone they do a Credit Check by using a Debit/Credit Card... Is it the same with Orange? As others have said if you don't have a Credit/Debit Card then ID Checks are completed the same as such at Banks...
    David :)
£1 of debt is too much for me!

Sounds a bit iffy from both parties, store assistants if I remember correctly don't get paid on a comission basis

They do at Orange - or at least they did when I was applying for a job there a couple of years ago.

AFAIK they dont get commision persay, but very attractive bonuses, my fried jsut a year ago was able to get very large performance based (over the whole store) bonuses sometimes tripleing her already above average wage, she works part time and earned more than my mum full time  so i think there is massive incentive for them to be pushy, overall however, i agree with the others and think your niece needs calmly talking to about consequences etc but assure her its completely confidential and you wont tell her mother.

Hopefully she will tell her herself in time.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
