We've renovated the house now and in a few years, we'll probably move to a similar sized house in a better area. A few years after that we may buy a larger house in the same area or another similar sized house in an even better area.
It's called climbing the ladder, and not having unrealistic ambitions - such as buying a 3 bed apartment in the centre of London for £80k.
Well, tbf, I DID get a handout! The one that many buyers of my own generation like to forget about altogether. I got MIRAS on the mortgages on the first three homes I bought, and this Government subsidy/benefit was a great help that is not out there for young people nowadays:("there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
Oh my God!
Cameron isnt going to say "as the economy falters and house prices take a nose dive"
:rotfl:
Why not? Especially if they believe it is the will, desire and good for the electorate.
They're anouncing cuts and that things are likely to get worse.
They've intimated CGT rises.
Why not come out and say if they wish house prices to lower?
The reason is that they're mantra is about handing power back to the people and they understand that the markets set the prices.
They probably realise that house prices will continue to rise without fundamental changes in which they are not in a position to implement, even if they wanted to (i.e. by crating far more social housing):wall:

I was simply showing how things have dramatically changed and that it's still like this and much worse throughout the world.
Taking the point about the broons though.
That one household probably requires 6 to 7 different properties nowadays.
What do you believe is the knock on effect for increasing demand sixfold whilst the supply of properties has not increased by the same ratio?
Oh, I quite agree that we do actually have to increase the supply if we hope for any reasonable housing standards in the Country. I'm not even claiming to have all the answers to the debate, or that "some" rise in price is not to be wished for.
I just cannot get behind those that advocate (and even welcome) extreme house price rises that far outstrip earnings inflation because I simply do not believe that a poorly housed (or poorly paid) population is ever going to be good for an economy, and I know for a fact that whilst it might put money into the pockets of a limited few it is exceptionally bad for any kind of decent society:)
Supply and demand aside, there will come a point when the prices are simply "unaffordable" without extreme wage inflation and that would benefit no-one."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

There is no supply and demand aside.
House prices directly affect affordability and therefore also affect the demand.
House prices are set by the market factors and house prices only need to be affordable to the market demand and the market supply.
As a quick example.
If there are 10 houses for sale and 100 people wishing to buy, the people with the highest affordability are most likely to be able to secure the properties.
In actual terms, I understand the owner occupancy level is something like 67%, therefore in theory, only the top 67% of earners need to be able to afford property.
The lower 33% therefore find property unnafordable:wall:

Its ironic that you claim prices in Ireland are bombing, yet you live in the UK,so where does your're VI lie,UK or Ireland?
When you say Ireland are you talking about north or south?
Im talking about north. Derry is in the north. Unfortunately the north is part of the UK.
You dont give a toss about Derry? Well i'll take the view that i dont give a toss about prices in your area either. I guess 90% of posters on here only care about their area so whats your point?
I could call you an english, welsh or scottish cu.nt but i wont lower myself to the gutter you are in
