i had the same problem when we wall mounted our flatscreen. i got round this by building a false wall behind the tv. hides all the cables and looks nice as i wall papered it.

You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

Can't suggest anything else that hasn't already been said but I believe the future solution for data transmission should be some variant on bluetooth with individual channels for each piece of kit

Cable ties, cable tidies, all suggested already.

If it's a wall mounted set though, then the cables really have to be chased in and a breakout box fitted at skirting level.

I'm considering buying/building some furniture to block the view of mine. It was acceptable in the old house where it was hidden in a corner, but at the new place the tv is right by the front door and it looks horrible!

I am just finishing off a "coffee" table to sit under the TV that will hold all the electronics out of site.

Hollow legs are used to route power from the floor to a hidden section below the top. Black ebony plugs provide some detailing and one of them is replaced by an electronic infra red eye that picks up the remote signals and relays them to the hidden equipment.

All excess cables are housed out of site behind the equipment and only a couple of scart cables showing that run up to the TV.
