Most of the cable tidy solutions I've seen take the form of a "split pipe" that you "zip" around the cables to make one or more thick one(s) instead of a spiders nest of wires.
It doesn't eradicate the mess, but it can look slightly better ordered, as if most of the cables take roughly the same path (eg games consoles + satelite + video + dvd all going to the TV) then with a bit of juggling to deal with differing cable lengths you can end up with one "trunk route" for all those.
I'm considering buying/building some furniture to block the view of mine. It was acceptable in the old house where it was hidden in a corner, but at the new place the tv is right by the front door and it looks horrible!5 year BOE + 2.49% capped tracker (cap 5.99%)

I've never come across anything that will seriously tidy up the back of tv birds nests. Although the split and spiral tubing does help quite a lot. The main problem, it seems to me, is the fact that all leads are too long and have to be coiled up and then the coil contained by a cable tie or such like. These bundles of cable will not normally fit inside the spiral or split tube. I do not think that there is a compleye answer to the problem. Unless anyone out there knows different. I think that most people opt for either hiding the mess or ignoring it.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Get a soldering iron and some ends and make cables up to the exact length you want. Also, don't use SCART, use standard composite cables, it's generally of no less quality and SCART cables are a nightmare to route as they're so stiff and thick.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

try some large binding comb from a stationary store, fix 1 or 2 to the back of the unit and tuck cables inside, longer ones can be run back and forth inside.
Not tried it myself I must add but its very similiar to some industrial stuff I used myself so might be an idea. cheap.0 -
Cable ties - £1 for a bag full at Poundstretcher - good for your runner bean poles too !0

I think it's about time the manufacturers dealt with this issue and stopped making the flipping leads so long! Surely 90% of people have everything on the one unit so why these leads need to be a minimum of 1m is beyond me, surely they could just be made alot shorter and then anyone who wants longer buys that.0

I bought a cheap pine storage box from homebase. The footprint is about the size of a piece of foolscap paper. I cut a U shaped hole at the top of the box at each end. Put the surge protector in the box with the lead coming out of one U-hole to the socket. Fed all the other leads into the box and plugged them in (I shortened them by winding them round till the lead was the right length and then securing that with an elastic hair scrunchy).
Put the lid on, and all you can see is a few wires going to the box.
The box is by the phone so I keep the phone books on it.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I have cable tidy problem is once you connected all the cables they then split up into main sockets and also to various gadgets like tv, sat, dvd player so it never will solve the whole solution0
