My and OH went food shopping on sunday (i normally leave him at home!) He nearly drove me potty putting things in the trolley that we dont need, are luxury items that we cant afford and moaned about buying value stuff.
He put in a 2 litre bottle of Robinson orange squash which was £2 odd, when asda own make is 18p a bottle!!! I took the robinsons out and put the cheap version in
But honestly his face - you would think I was trying to poision him! (tempting )
It makes me realise why our food shopping bill was so much pre-MSE days!

I leave my OH at home too.
I rarely send him out - even when sick, its cheaper for me to pay the £5 delivery charge than let him loose in the store.
He likes Marmite. But its expensive and no real alternative. He insists on the really large jar. But only has Marmite occassionally - a small tiny one lasts a month. Waste of money (and no shop own alternative!)
Baked Beans - shop own - NO! Heinz or Branston, even though in a home taste test he picked the shops own!!!
And the same with Juice too! Fresh juice - can;'t be Tesco own, must be a big branded one!

I can sympathise, I went round the supermarket on Saturday saying
"if it's not on the list we don't buy it"
and
"do not browse the shelves, we will go straight from the cheese counter to the pasta section and then leave."
I made him put back the prepacked veg as well and selected my own which weer cheaper.
I'll be trying to leave him at home next week0 -
We "Nipped in" for a bottle of wine to take along to friends on saturday... and walked out with 2 bottles of wine, bottle of Morgan spiced and mickey Finns apple schnapps... ok I'll cop to the wine but the other two were him!
This is exactly why he's not allowed to do the shopping unless it's at the local butchers as he always gets a good deal as they barter (he fishes so they get anything good he catches as we don't eat fish).DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I never shop with my wife, as it always sparks a row, although she does send me on my own. I tend to look for the BOGOFs and yellow labels, but often because of this I end up spending more than I should (and getting a roasting when I arrive home with things we didn't need!!). I learned my lesson may years ago, and freely admit that my wife is a better shopper than me.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

OH never actually shops with me these days as I prefer to go by myself but he would quite happily fill a trolley with premium branded stuff and then come home and moan about how he got ripped off!
I tend to buy lots of value things that I can remove from the packaging so he won't know what brand they are. I picked up some Value cereal bars from Tesco yesterday 5 for 80p I think, and when I took them out the box they were just a plain white wrapper - perfect lolIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
Must admit,I go shopping with Mrs.Pobby.Have to say,I think I`m more of an own brand freak than she is.We tend to cook everything ourselves, apart from the odd pizza, nad frankly,if I am doing a chilli,it is impossible to tell wether the beans and tinned tomatoes are premium or own brand.
As for take aways a great big no no.We like Indian and Chinese but cook it ourselves.Asian shops sell spices cheaply.Morrisons do a limited but fairly good line in Indian spices0 -
For a lot of products (juice, shampoo etc.) you can easily buy the own-brand stuff and decant it into an empty 'branded' bottle.
My dad thinks he's been using radox for years, but it's asdas own in the bottle. Of course, if I put the asda bottle in there he'd !!!!!! and moan, but what he doesn't know can't hurt him.

Don't whether I'd agree with it but it seems to work for a lot of peopleFor a lot of products (juice, shampoo etc.) you can easily buy the own-brand stuff and decant it into an empty 'branded' bottle.0 -
My OH is terrible too, we don't live together thank god!! He only shops in Waitrose, will only buy branded food and for want of a better word is a snob (god knows how he ended up with me!!). I can't stand him poking around my kitchen when I am cooking as he turns his nose up at the packaging of what I buy, but never complains about the food. He spends at least £50 a week on food and about £30 a week on breakfast and lunch at work. It's not a problem, he has the money to do so but since joining MSE I can't stand the thought of him wasting so much money. I will definitely be keeping a tight rein on the purse strings when we eventually live together.Saving for an early retirement!0

My good lady is terrible around the shops. It's not that she buys anything particularly expensive and certainly nothing for herself. It's just that she gets so damn much!!!
We are starting our DF drive on Sept 1 (SOA to come...help!) and i told her about some of the ideas ie mealplans, spending diaries. Her face was a picture!0
