Just thought I would give my opinion. I fake tan every other day and have done for many years. Im normally so white you can see all my veins ! Just like a little colour about me so that people dont continualy ask me if im feeling unwell.
I get exema (sp?) from time to time and also am badly allergic to some fake tans (orange with hives and rash all over body ,and clawing at yourself every 30 sec is SO not a good look)
The best fake tan I have found is ASDA fake tan, however I mix this on my hand with either ASDA gradual tan (around £3ish ) or Superdrug gradual tan (around £0.49p ish :money:) this way its not too dark or streaky. I normaly have a nice hot shower on sunday morning and scrub all dry skin(elbows , knees , hands etc) slather myself with body butter and leave it on all day, then in the evening I apply wee mix of Fake tan and gradual tan , then every day I top up with gradual tan. Sometimes if ive been to the gym or been warm at work (sweat causes tan to rub off) I many need to wash tan off ( warm bath with warm soapy flannel) and start process again.
I have used many gradual tans and loads of fake ones . Fake bake moose is good for specialy occasion , so is St tropez. Tan towels work really well(have used the ones from poundland loads) but you MUST exfoliate and moisturise day before because they are not very forgiving and show up any patches of dry skin.
DO NOT buy ambre solaire spray on tan. It says "no streak" i nearly had to phone in a sickie at work I looked like a leopard !!!!! it was awful and lasted for days.I will admit to shamelessly sitting in a bath with a nail brush and a bottle of cream cleaner and toothpaste to try to get the awful stuff off (i would not recomend this !!) much to my OH's amusement :o
Tesco spray on tan is fantastic , but im allergic to this , really even tan and nice colour that you can build up in you want .
Sorry if ive went on a bit . but hope it helps

P.S I always tan my hands , but to get tan off of palm of hands and nails and nail beds. Use baby wipes to wipe palm , in between fingers and ontop of nails , and under nails ( you dont want to look like you smoke 40 a day )
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

  • Oh noo sounds like you had a nightmare with the Ambre Solaire spray tan!! Ive never really had a problem with it before but guess its different for different people/skins. Got some nice ideas from this thread so far, so thanks to the OP! :)
  • St Moritz is a fake version of st tropez you can buy for £2.99 a bottle in home bargains or a little more online. Worth trying out :)

St Moritz goes on gorgeous, especially if you use a blending mitt (ask for one for free at the Debenhams counter - say you use St Tropez, but your old mitt burst)

    BUT...

Its a nightmare to come off! It really clings to your skin and it looks that horrible "corned beefy" texture as it comes off. I literally had to scrub my skin raw every day for a a week.

All in all, great if you are skint and want a fake tan, but not ideal for regular use.

Another vote for the St Tropez everyday spray tan. It is easy, steak free, smells fine, and there is no chance of looking orange - but then I don't use it everyday, only about 3 times a week.

My initial purchase was from duty free at 20.00, however, I have just bought my 2nd from ebay powerseller for about 13.00 inc p&p.
