What happens when I cancel SKY?

I have just cancelled SKy after 11 years.

Whilst my daghters are complaining, I am sure that I will still receive the free to air channels, BBC ITV C4 etc with all the +1 channels

I have a SKY+ box with a new SKY card

Can anyone confirm exactly what channels I will get once it is switched off?

Am I right in thinking that we also loose the record and pause facility as well?

Thanks

jamespir I think you may be a little under on your guess of how many channels.

OP you get over 240 channels, effectively your card becomes a freesat card so if you browse to the freesat from sky website http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/ then it will detail all of the channels that you will receive without a subscription.

I also feel like I should inform you that within a month of cancelling sky will phone or write offering you the world to come back!

If you want recording facilities, just buy a Humax Foxsat HDR box, you can use that with your existing Sky dish without any modificiations. It's just a straight swap, and then you will be able to get all the Freesat channels (similar line up to Sky FTA) with full PVR facilities for free, plus the Freesat HD channels of course.

    Or £229 at Richer Sounds:

To put it in perspective, that £240 is what you were paying Sky every 6 months for 11 years...or £5,280 in total. Ouch!

Ouch, I had never actually worked it out.

Thanks for cheering me up, when you say it like that it's a lot of money over the years.:(

Perhaps the box isn't that expensive over a year...

Hasn't anyone worked out how to 'homebrew' a Sky+ box anywhere, surley if you own it after the sky contract and all the hardware capability is there there must be some freeware OS / thing from Sky you can rip out of the box to make it work without needing to pay sky £120 a year....
