Well - did you actually buy one this morning?!0

No, I didn't, having read peoples' thoughts and realising that I wouldn't be able to easily use touch screen (I have restricted mobility in my right arm due to breaking my shoulder a few years ago). Plus I am too busy to learn to change my ways of using the computer.
So now I need a recommendation of what I should buy, without any gimmicks!!
Thanks to everyone.

Comet seem to do a good range of HP Pavilion computers. My last laptop was HP and it was brilliant.
You'll need to go in store to see them, as the information on their website isn't great - it says they have shared and stand alone graphics and that's highly unlikely to be correct!!In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
A good starting reference for your 'normal' mid-range PC is hop onto the dell website and look what they're currrent offering is, then compare whatever store deal/internet deal to that to see if its any better/worse (and not a complete rip-off)0

I bought a Medion Akoya P4020 here in OZ about ten days back. I have to agree with most comments on this post. It is a nice bit of gear but,
if you are a gamer, just don't bother, the graphics are not up to it but, for the money, it beats most deals around.
The win 7 Home premium is a bit on the sensitive side and I have already lost the ability to turn the LED background lights on or off.
The local Medion office suggested I reload the drivers from the on board backup. This worked for about five minutes, then my further calls for assistance went unheeded.
It is not affecting performance though.
I decided to add a HDD in a docking unit on a USB cable as a backup, as a single big drive does not give you backup independence.
This worked OK, so I then decided I may as well run dual boot, to run some older programs. that did not work under Win 7.
The additional drive crashes. Looks like a deliberate setting of the bios or motherboard. Needless to say, Medion support have not responded to my questions on this.
I am currently awaiting the bits to relocate the CD-DVD sata drive to an external housing, so I may run an eSata lead out to the second HDD in the docking unit.
Once that is done, I think I will have a dual boot system well worth the money I have paid. I guess though, my warranty flew out the window some days back.
I see the benefits as the HD tuner, the massive storage capacity, the lack of wiring and the semi portability that assures you can take it in your caravan and drive it off batteries.
The touch screen is a nice gimmick but touch apps for desk tops are still in their infancy.
From my investigations, I realise that there is no detailed specification published for the motherboard. I wonder why?
I am interested to know the performance limits if I implement the 64 bit Win 7. It should certainly improve the speed but what about the graphics?
