Hi, Try using the Windows XP OS disk. Hopefully will boot from CD. When asked use repair "R" and try check disk CHKDSK. If not sure type help and page down. at prompt type CHKDSK and then "Y". If all goes well will check your HD and made repairs and hopefully fix any errors.
Regards

try repairing it then, but my 2pence says you can't hence get another one or if you don't want to spend anything then just ditch it0

well could get hirens boot disc tools should be able to find a piece of software for the manufacturer of the hard drive either repair it or tell you its dead but sounds to me like corrupt data file probabley have to reinstall windows if the drive hasnt had it drives have a lifetime limit like anything.
if you need to retrieve data i would suggest putting in a caddy and hooking upto another computer using as a slave to pull off photos and important files first so you dont loose everything.0 -
i tried the hirens boot disc+i didnt have any luck so it looks like i will have to take it to the repair shop for a new hard drive, which was my first thought, but i thought i would get some advice from the techie people on here+see if there was a fix.0

Hi, new hard drive not that difficult to fit yourself, would be a lot cheaper that shop doing it, have you any XP install disks to hand ? Can talk you through a re installation no problem,
