Nationwide 4 Year Football Bond - This must be a joke

Four-year fixed rate Football Bond paying 4.15% gross p.a./AER*
The four-year Football Bond pays a competitive 4.15% gross p.a./AER*, plus an additional bonus if England lift the cup in South Africa this summer. Should this happen, an additional fixed bonus of 0.50% gross p.a. will be paid from 14 May 2011 until maturity of the bond.
Honestly how do these accounts get past the FSA or whoever...England will be home before the fat lady starts to eat and the savers won't see a penny of the 0.50%.

More of a gimmick than a joke? 4.15% is not far off the top of the table (4.3%) for anyone wanting to tie up their money for 4 years. Don't bank on the bonus, though!
Personally I wouldn't want to tie up for that long with current economic uncertainties, and I wouldn't want to hamper England's chances by taking a punt on them.0 -
Looks like one part of the country will be p1ssed off with England for losing the world cup, and another part p1ssed at them for losing 0.5%
Bet this is a big sell in Scotland.0 -

But you could easily lay England on betfair (currently at 6.8/1) and create your own smaller bonus using the value of the 0.5% bonus as your stakeChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
It's not just Nationwide - Toshiba say they will refund people who buy TVs and laptops if England win - http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/money-saving-ideas/article.html?in_article_id=502524&in_page_id=512
But I don't see anyone saying they will give something away for free if England lose.0 -

But with a betfair lay of England, all these offers do exactly thatChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

They've reduced the rate by 0.50% (since the last issue) to pay for this "bonus" anyway.0

Not exactly. If you lay england to win you'll achieve around a 10-15% discount.
On the savings product you'll be able to guarantee a very small bonus.0 -

Absolutely pathetic, why do you think this would sell in Scotland??we are sick to death of all these adverts and promotiions supporting England. It is of no interest to us, you must be one of those english folk with a chip on their shoulder assuming the whole of scotand hates you, which is completely untrue0 -
