Engine fan on constantly

They did tests to diagnose the water pump and when they fitted the new water pump they did a pessure test and other tests and found the head gasket to be a problem
in earlier post you say it heated to 100 degrees and fan came on and ran constant, also in another post you said it went to red and you used heater to cool it down.
this means the water pump was working as it should,if pump was not working then water around engine would get hot but the water around temp switch in rad would not get hot enough to put fan on due to no circulation, also putting heaters would have no effect on engine temp again due to no coolant circulation.
it sounds to me like the garage you used have just clutched at straws rather than trying to diagnose properly.
i would say the problem all along was the head gasket, very common problem for it to go between water gallery r/h side of engine and no4 cylinder on the older vauxhall engines0 -
If the dealer is still trading even from home, then the O/P would have had just reason to pursue a claim against him.
However taking the car elsewhere first was a bad idea and now gives the trader an excuse not to pay - which was always going to be difficult on an 11 year old car.
I think the big learn here is at very least to get the car back to the supplying dealer. An overheating engine is never good news. There are some things that should not be debated for days on an internet forum first and this is one of them - along with another recent one 'sometimes my brake pedal goes right to the floor and i have no brakes, other times its ok, what should i do?' :eek:0 -

I have to disagree with you. The guy comes on here with a straight forward motoring issue which he doesn't know how to fix, is worried that he won't be able to afford it. He gets the right advice in amongst some rubbish, I think Mikey said 1st "take it back where you got it from"
He reiterated it in a later post. The OP chose to ignore that advice and took it to a 2nd garage.
The fact that what he was told was correct, the issues that were at risk became real and the fact that his actions have left him seriously out of pocket should serve as a lesson for anyone with an interest in this post.
I don't think "we" should act as sensors for what is a valid money/motoring issue;):money:
By the way I do agree with your other point, and remember the thred. Anyone with dodgy brakes that thinks an internet forum is 1st port of call is "slightly mixed up", to be polite :eek::eek:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

You're right - among the rubbish there were people who instantly said 'take it back'. Loved the 'buy a haynes manual and work out how to fix it yourself' approach - meanwhile even more damage is done. Brilliant.
Yes, RE: the brakes, you have to feel that maybe Darwinism should be allowed to runs its course there.0 -
Just a thought, but if you have aircon, it'll likely keep the radiator fan running constantly to cool off the heat exchanger.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The fan should not be on constantly - even if there is aircon and it is working.0 -

I couldn't take it back to where I got it from because a) following peoples advice, I continued to drive the car so was 15-20 miles away from my home when this happened and b) the garage I bought the car from has closed down. It was only after a lot of research that I managed to find the dealers mobile number.
Sorry gaz not a pop at you, but you may recall I said the situation could become disasterous or something to that effect, the fact that you did what you did is the reason for my signature, some find it offensive, but 'twas meant to alert folks to some of the crap that gets spouted on here.
Learn, and hopefully have a more satisfying motoring experience from hereon,;)

Erm, I made the Haynes manual comment to address the OP's statement that he "doesn't know much about how cars work". I did not tell him to fix it himself!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
You didn't get any warranty? Even without, you do have rights and may be able to claim. How long is a "A few weeks" less than a month? Ask nicely and you might get repair for free.
