When did you start giving your baby Orange Juice?

Until 12 months, just breastmilk - with the occasional sip of water for "fun".
After 12 months, anything within reason. I generally "dilute" their drinks so they still look right but contain what I feel is something more reasonable for their ages. For example, I add a lot of milk to white tea or water to black tea. Fruit juice is half and half water. Squash is heavily diluted. So long as it looks like what everyone else is drinking, then they are very happy. Stuff you can't dilute, like soda, is a treat. And all milks are fine at any time.
Is it the temperature of the water? Have you tried both ice cold and room temperature? Or offering different types of cups - milk bottles, beakers, etc.0 -

My DD is 7 months old now. Getting her to drink anything else apart from milk is becoming a bit of a nightmare. She hates water and I have tried to pursue it, I have tried cold water, warm water, room temperature and over and over again, but she just pulls a face and spits it out and then clamps her mouth shut. She is the same with watered down baby juice and the flavoured baby water. I tried her with a sip of orange juice and she loved it, opening her mouth for more, is she allowed to drink Orange juice now, when did people start to give their babies orange juice?
Thanks
Cleo
Hi Cleo.
My kids are now 17 , 14 and 12 and i gave all three of them the TINIEST splash of orange juice in water from they were around 6 or 7 months .
Trust me , it has never done them any harm . Before anyone goes on about the harm to their teeth , let me tell you that their teeth are just fine lol infact , my 14 year old still has several baby teeth !

The main foodsource (and drink!) should be milk until 12 months, anything else is just for fun really.
Please don't worry about your baby getting fat, babies are supposed to be fat!
As for us, DD is still breastfed but she does have cows milk a couple of times a day, and the odd drink of watered down hi-juice, apple juice or something with meals. (She's 2 and a half).0 -
My little ones like apple juice- they're two and four now. One thing I'd say is check the label content. I used to buy the special baby juice until one day when I compared the sugar content with a can of coke. The baby juice was worse than a can of coke- never bought it again!0

as any diabetic will tell you 100% fruit juice has a huge amount of sugar in it just the fact its "natural" doesnt make it any better. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I wish someone would tell my sister this (as she won't listen to me). My niece has around 4/5 boxes of apple juice a day. Thats over 100% of an ADULT'S daily recommended amount of sugar  (and thats before the biscuits, chocolate etc) The excuse is she won't drink water.
I really think she would if it was all she was offered from the beginning!
Please try not to go down that route this early OP. Especially not undiluted!

I think Op said baby is on formula, in which case you do have to worry about them getting fat. Breastmilk is OK in large quantities as it changes over the course of a feed, but my understanding is that formula, because it is the same all the time, shouldn;t be given quite so freely.
No idea what to suggest about the water, my DD is 10 months and happily drinks cold water from her sippy cup so it's not something I've had to face. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

A carton (i.e. 250 mls) of pure fruit juice contains about a quarter of your daily recommended sugar intake. My kids are allowed it once a day, because I think it's a good source of vitamins, and it counts as one of the "five a day". Other than that, I give them weak "no added sugar" squash, and a cup of milk before bed (and milk first thing in the morning for my 16-month-old).0

My LO would only drink Juice at first (flat out refused water) but I gradually added more and more water and now he just has water. You said you'd offered various temperatures of water - are you offering tap water or cooled boiled water?
As soon as I introduced tap water he started drinking much more,it can be introduced from 6 months. He is 8.5 months and drinks at least a beaker of water if not 2.
If you offer too much pure OJ then you will see the result in her nappy as a lot of people use OJ to help constipated babies.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
