Sounds like the power supple unit is on its way out as I had very similar problems with my PC. New power supply fitted and it was as good as new. Cost me £52 to get it sorted at a local PC repair clinic as they call it.
I thought that as soon as it said it happened a second time on a new MB.
How can enyone use PC world and technical experts in the same sentence, isn't that an oxymoron?
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.
  • My apologies now - this may also be quite long, but I hope to shed some light.... although it may not be very bright.

First - the store can`t/won`t do anything, don`t waste your time.
If you have done a recovery after the MB replacement - it`s NOT software
If you don`t see the initial PB screen when you try and restart it - it`s NOT software.
The memory dump msg doesn`t automatically mean hardware though, it also appears when windows crashes due to a software glitch.
Is possibly Power unit, possibly a Memory fault, possibly even CPU, but if a recovery has been done - it`s def NOT software.

The people who answer the call can only request a W/Off from the dept that runs the insurance, BUT they generally accept what they say. If the techguys say it`s H/Ware, it usually gets written off as long as everything else complies with the policy.

Depending on your policy, the period after which you can ask for a W/O if either 3,4 or 6 weeks.

The period for a write-off has to have no large gaps in contact, such as over a week between the repair and your next call.... are there any gaps that they may be using as an excuse to refuse?? Make sure if you call again, you get a list of the dates you called and the dates engineers came out to you. Also make a note of any reason for any gaps in contact! It may be worth calling the coverplan people directly and explaining the situation. 0844 561 4000 - option for new policies will get you a human pretty quick!

Has the issue been raised to a Team Leader by anyone you have spoke to? If not, ask them to.... they will do so! If the Team Leader agrees you have a case, he can then raise the issue to another dept within the call centre.

Lastly, Jimbms, some of the people at techguys actually care a lot about customer service, and are well experienced/qualified to deal with technical support. This doesn`t, unfortunately, give them any way to cut through any of the red-tape handed down from on high.

Ryanstarr - I obviously can`t do anything directly for you without breaking several data protection and company policies, and peanuts are still food!!!!! But if you have any specific questions pls message me and i will try to answer honestly and helpfully.

"MEMORY CRASH DUMP" Means nothing without the stop/error code.

It could be almost any piece of hardware in the system and could even be a software/driver issue.

However, running an IT business myself (part of which I sell hand built machines made from high quality parts) I find it hard to have sympathy for people who go out looking for the cheapest deal and to hell with hardware quality. I understand however that my extensive electronic component knowledge isn't something that can be taught to Joe Public.

But yes, TTG aren't exactly the most competent people in the IT business.

You're not having much luck, Ryan. Problems with both Top Shop and Tech Guys.

Im going to write a letter to the techguys asking them exactly why they wont write it off when under the T&C it says they should unless its a software fault and they havnt proven its a software fault.

I wont be posting anymore comments on this or making any new threads as to anything new iv encountered as it just seems im getting abuse on here on the walls and inbox which is dissapointing as im on the site a hell of a lot since i joined.

Yes, there are a lot of prats here who are very very sad and don't have proper lives, but do as I do and add them to your ignore list. I've got quite a few now.

A lot of people have offered you good advice and I've sympathised with your problems, as when having extensions done to my house I encountered problems with 3 different suppliers. Using knowledge gained from reading various posts on these sites I did get these sorted out eventually by phone, email and personal visit which all took a lot of my time.
