what to do with cream carpets

We had cream carpets fitted two years ago.

This was in our pre child days. They are on the stairs, landing, and throughout all the bedrooms upstairs.

Unfortunately they are now looking marked, and we're not sure whether to clean them or replace them.

Any advice appreciated

bin them if you can afford it i carpet shops love it when people buy cream carpets cause they know they'll be back in 18 months to replace them , around the edges seem to always look really black, a medium beige colour is not to light or to dark , but i'm a man what do i know...lol

We cleaned our living room one until the kids were old enough to stop dropping food or being sick on them (house trained as I call it)!

Now they just colour then in with felt tip pens instead!!

I wish I had never bought a cream carpet for the bedroom, I try and scrub round the edges where its really dark, but never looks any better, I wash the carpet once a year, but it never lasts.:(

I have always had cream carpets, even when my kids were very young. Mine don't get the black marks around the edge, but they are 80% wool.

I keep mine clean by buying a good quality carpet washer (currently a VAX) and using every 2-3 months in the well used rooms and less frequently in the other rooms. I did choose cream for the hall and stairs which if I had my time again I would choose another colour as that is the one that gets the most dirty and is the most difficult to clean. My previous house had a medium green for hall and stairs and cream in all the other rooms.

I also use a rug in the lounge right next to the sofa as that area seems to get dirty really quickly.

I hate any solid colour carpet - my landlady has fitted my whole flat with peach. It's very tasteful, but not terribly practical.

Hiring a Rug Doctor for a weekend will make a surprising difference. And even if you then decide to get new carpet, at least you won't feel embarrassed when the fitters take the old one away.

Stair carpets get very hard wear - a bedroom grade carpet really isn't appropriate.

We too have cream carpets on our stairs and landings but tbh we had to buy something for our new house and its the only thing we liike din our budget at short notice! I still really like it and we have lived here alsmot 3 years but are looking to chnage it as although we are a no shoes house we still get marks. I use wet wipes on the few bottom stairs but the rest ok, no black marks here!
I will next time go for the darker cream/beige colour.

I had cream carpets that were fine for about 2.5 years, then had them cleaned and now they get filthy sooo quickly.

My Mum says that it is because they are synthetic (or some high % synthetic), and once cleaned they tend to attract dirt. Doesn't happen so much with Wool apparently. No idea if she is right though! But sounds plausible!

We had a cream carpet in our living room before we had children. We've got laminate now!

We had cream carpets, in the hall, stairs and landing (in our old house, we moved in March). That was 2006. We changed them in 2008.

We did have cream wool with a fleck though downstairs in the through room and we didn't have to change that one.

We didn't make the same mistake here, we have brown all the way through (apart from kids rooms, bathroom and kitchen) and a large long runner up the hall.

Anything to light shows the muck ~ Anything too dark shows all the bits, so I'd get something in between.
