Turn off system restore for C drive
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405

    Then run ccleaner
    Download CCLEANER
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

Then turn system restore back on

Then id say you 'should' be ok to work as normal

I've done all that you said and rebooted. I've got a red shield on the bottom right hand corner saying no firewall is turned on.

I went to control panel and clicked on windows firewall and it says its on, do I need to do anything?

    odd

have you turned system restore back on and rebooted? if not thats the 1st thing id do

if the message wont go away id consider a 3rd party firewall to be safe (PC TOOLS FIREWALL is what I use)

I had put system restore back on and rebooted. I've just switched off then back on and it was still there.

When I went into advanced on windows firewall my tesco broadband wasn't ticked for some reason so once I ticked it the shield disappeared.

Hopefully everything is ok now, thanks for all the help especially alienRIK:T
