Wow thanks!! There's loads there, just going to have a look now, sort of updated my list to re-arrange etc, I'm sure there is loads more that I've forgotten.
Just been reading a wedding mag and it said the cost of a church wedding is about £250, is this an average or something as I was quoted £800 for the church I provisionally booked0 -
i think you can get some churches for under £100 and register offices as well. in my area register offices are over £300

http://www.georgehotelglossop.co.uk/functions.html
says it has been refurbished, has function rooms with no fee so just pay for the food. there are buffets for £10 per person (wish i could find these prices where i live!!)
There's a reason some of them are so cheap
That Village Hotel looks lovely, the others are a bit far out, however you;ve given me a great idea, going to put the postcode of the church into somewhere like late rooms then see which hotels are nearby, then short list them :rotfl:
Thank you :T Where is it you're looking for?0 -

Have you asked about the kind of service, someone on here mentioned that the basic service, you and the witnesses, is about £40, depends how many people you want though0 -
thanks but the ones here only take 4 of you and its just in a standard office. we were originally going to elope to have a humanist ceremony outside in canada then to cut costs changed it to scotland then decided it was unsuitable for many reasons, then we decided we would stick to a small garden party feel (not formal) with afternoon tea/picnic and get married outside, and now we are stuck looking at anything as nowhere here does anything like that

I have seen one or two places that do outdoor ceremonies, I think the eden project does them, can't think of any others off the top of my head, somewhere in wales. Where are you?0

abbotsbury (we nearly went for this one as its back home where my family are but when you start reading the constraints they dont make any sense so youd be outside for cereomny and then have to wait to use rooms for reception and theres no where to shelter etc etc etc and then out of the nominated caterers none could do the food we need
)

but we are in kent and on a tiny budget, nearest one to us is
walled garden of cowdray (http://www.walledgardencowdray.co.uk/) but we cant afford it plus the ceremony is actually inside

Dear God that's a lot! C of E weddings are fairly fixed, ours is £347 but this includes £50 for the bellringer. Catholic churches are more variable, and tend to be more expensive. Smaller churches such as denominations in the Assemblies of God groupings need the money a lot more and tend to charge more accordingly, the church we used to attend charged £500 for members or £1000 for non members and it was the ugliest building in the world!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off0 -

I disagree with this. We looked at 3 CofE churches. One wanted £500, one wanted £620 and the other £845. As it is, I'm catholic and OH is a non-practicing CofE, so we're now getting married im 'my' church for a suggested donation of £250.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
have the ceremony as late as you can so you only have to provide your guests with one meal
maybe a bbq cooked by the chef or a cheap buffet
go to the supermarkets for your food/drink
are there any halls/working mens clubs by you? they are usually cheap to hire
look online at ebay and dunelm for accessories and decorations which wont cost much and will make it a bit more special
most weddings are a year or more away as the place they want is already booked or they need to save up for it
once you have the church sorted youll be ok
you dont need long to do a wedding at all so dont worry about it being rushed
we decided to set our date in february and within a couple of months i had everything done in my head!
because we need to save up its not going to be for another two years+ so i really envy you!:)
if you need help finding anything else please let us know xI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0
