if he gets anywhere near £500 for it, you want to ask him if he can give you next weeks lottery numbers, as he obviously has the midas touch:D

i had an ex taxi octavia - the gearbox went after around 250k miles and it was uneconomical to repair so just scrapped it.

Skodas have the same sort of reliability as VW's being based on the same platform and parts, i.e. not all that brilliant.

One things for certain, the car hasn't been clocked (and they're quite easy to do).

Skoda are scoring better on reliability than VW, work that one out.

You hope its not been clocked, 5 taxi owners who all wound 100k off.

Skodas are much more reliable- hence why they get used by taxi firms so much. My theory, why use similar parts, but tend to go for cheaper, less fancy stuff rather than the new all singing all dancing stuff that can go wrong.

It is a Renfrewshire Airport hire car- white, date in bumper. Possible that it transferred from the airport ranks to being an ordinary Renfrewshire cab after that.

The SDi isn't great, but I've been in them as taxis (maybe that one) and they don't half shift!

    Skoda's - bad making.

Avoid it, you won't be able to give it away when you want to get rid of it!
  • Dont listen to the people stuck in the dark ages or people that dont really know..... Skodas use VW Audi Mechanicals and Platforms now and have done for years and are equally reliable...

During the scrappage scheme I know several skoda dealers took in cars with 300k plus and a couple had topped the 500k mark.

Funny thing was they didnt send them to auction - just put an ad in the small ads and they took between £500 and £1500 for them.

Octavia and Superb reliabilty is top notch but you need to remember that many of these cars have had minimal strain.

Airport taxi cars will routinely do 2-3k a week and most of that time they are cruising the motorways so minimal breaking, minimal steering, minimal gear changes, minimal cold starts etc.

I used to drive 1500 a week and it was often the case I could do a 300 mile journey using less gear changes and less touches on the break than I do taking my kids to nursery and coming back (3 mile round trip). Sad but I used to count the changes.

Residual Values for Skodas are often higher than VW and are closer to BMW/Audi than anything else.
