Browsing cheap used cars on eBay and found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-SKODA-OCTAVIA-CLASSIC-SDI-WHITE-/220608114593?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item335d44afa1

Tempted to buy it, fix the exhaust and see just how much longer it'll go for :T

Its probably worthless without an MOT as it could well fail on a lot of other things. The exhaust is probably just the start.

Ex Taxi's... excluding the battered bodywork are normally mechanically sound.

The worst damage is done to an engine from a cold start, a Taxi will probably have never had a truly cold start.

According to the photo of the clocks it's actually 353000
  • Worth a shot at a couple of hundred. Much more than that and you want a new MOT with it. Badly fitted seat covers on the front seats suggest the seats underneath have had it.

The SDI is also generally regarded as an awful engine. With a massive 68BHP you will be going so slowly even if you break down you won't notice.

With almost 350000 miles on an engine that has been thrashed from new just to keep up with mopeds I would say the amount of life left in it could be measured in days if not minutes.

Want a cheap car, go for a Skoda Felicia, next to worthless but you can get better condition and a lot lower mileage. Will last longer than this ocatavia will.

    Example

Oh I do know there are far more cheap cars out there that will come with tax and test and a quarter of the miles for < £500, just thought the mileage was outrageous :rotfl:

That's a bit wierd, it looks like a Renfrewshire/Glasgow Airport Taxi, but they can only be up to 5 years old. Looks like its already had its taxi life, been out as a private runabout and is now for sale because its on its knees.

I think the mileage is impressive! I can't imagine anyone actually buying it to use though.

Skoda Octavias do tend to be pretty reliable. I just got rid of mine and in the three years I had it nothing went wrong at all. Just needed a couple of services and tyres.
It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Yeah I was thinking that since I saw an 04 plate ex-taxi one the other day with 250k on the clock that had just been decommissioned as a Glasgow taxi due to the age restrictions.

I think the guy is being ambitious at £500 tbh, I can buy a decent runner with a full MOT for that

if he gets anywhere near £500 for it, you want to ask him if he can give you next weeks lottery numbers, as he obviously has the midas touch:D
