  • Has it had the cambelt etc done?
a lot of people have these low mile cars and forgot to get the belts etc done.

I think £3500 seems about right for it only if its fully serviced in line with the recommendations etc.

The problem is when people are spending 3-4k on a car they are starting to get to the territory where they like the reassurance of consumer protection etc.

Whats the MOT on it? A look at a few dealers shows similar age Yaris's with nominal mileage for under 4k which means privately I wouldnt expect anymore than 3.5k at best and thats based on a year MOT, year tax and everything fully serviced to date including belt etc.

You had a crap mechanic then.

Timing belts are normally approximately 60k miles or 4/5 years. As it is rubber it weas over time and not just use. Leaving a belt on until 12 years old is asking for trouble

As for 60k in 12 years then thats nothing like normal use. The average mileage is about 13k per year which actually works out about 60-70k after 5 years.

And it these mad prices which convinced me to break the rule of a life time and buy a brand new car. Why anybody would pay £5k for a 7 year old supermini is just beyond me. The 206 at £3k seems like a good buy :).

:D i think so, the guy had it in p/x from his next door neighbour's daughter (docs supported) and his tiny lot had all high mileage nearly new vans/sedans and was at the back of a kwik fit so A people wouldnt go there for that kinda car and B she/her parents/he live one street over (proof as went to his house) and if he had it hiked up she would know. I was a bit dubious but it wasnt that much lower and he obviously didnt make a loss.

Strange as one was a complete stranger who came to look at the car for his girlfriend and the other was a family friend since before i was born

Very strange, depending on the exact model the belt change for a 106 appears to be either 80k miles or 5 years.

I seem to recall it varies dependent on the 206 model. Some are upto 90k miles but really wouldnt risk it.

I would always go for about 60k and 5 years.

    What model of 206?
