Liquidation

My company had an airtime contract with Orange which included two mobile phones (Blackberry Curve & Nokia E71). The company went into liquidation and no attempt was made to recover the handsets.
Is it possible to buy PAYG sim cards for the above? Although this sounds a little unsavoury, it does seem daft not to utilise two perfectly good phones.

Has anyone form the company told Orange that that they've gone into liquidation ?
What the state of the contract ? Has it finished it's minimum term ?
If there's outstanding payments Orange 'may' blacklist the handsets (I'm not sure how business CS work these things?).0 -
Interesting thought !
If the phones were provided FOC which is usualy the case then I doubt they will be on the company's books as an asset.
In which case I don't see a problem using them and easy enough to get sim cards for etc.
However if the phones were purchased then they would show up as an asset and should have been returned to the liquidater or receiver etc etc. It's not just about the money0 -
I agree, they either go back to orange to reduce the debt. Or as an asset on the books goto the liquidator to raise funds to pay off debts.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks for replying.
The phones were free as part of an airtime contract but the liquidators attitude is that they are encumbered assets of minimal value and he's not interested in them.
I'm going to give Orange more time to react but I would be interested to hear from others regarding good deals on payg sim cards for the phone models concerned in the event that we do indeed retain the handsets.0 -
Well check the T&Cs you should find in their the handsets are the businesses property, so orange may not want them back and if they do it must reduce the debt.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

That's norm for such items. If Orange asked for them back in order to minimise debt I would fall over backwards.
It would cost them ( on paper ) far more to collect then they will gain. Usually in these situations , assets such has these are usually ignored.
The liquidators will say would goes and what stays.0 -
Thanks again for your replies. I'll sit tight until the dust settles and if the handsets remain with me I'll be back to ask advice on best payg sims for a Blackberry Curve & Nokia E71. Cheers.0

This happened to me a few years back, we all rang orange and all they said was thanks for ringing as they was about to block the phones but we could keep the phone as they didn't want a second hand one, they offered a reduced contract if we wished to continue it, a free payg sim or a reasonable unlock fee for the phone. My advice is ring them otherwise there is a chance they will block the phone.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0

Excellent advice. I will ring them forthwith.0

To make sure that any 'correspondence' was copied, I decided to email Orange rather than phone.
Didn't get a reply and they have now 'call barred' the phones.
Which is the best way to get this rectified?
