David Lloyd Gym cancellation period

Be warned!!!
If you cancel your gym membership with David Lloyd, then your cancellation notice period begins AT THE END of the month you hand in your notice. If, like me, you hand your notice in on the 7th of the month, then the notice period begins on the last day of that month effectively meaning that my 3 months notice is now 3 months and 23 days.
I have actively chased this with DL membership services and, in their words "the system is inflexible". It is also apparently in the T&Cs which are available on the web but I was inable to find them from a search of the website.

Effectively, they are taking 3 weeks money from me against my wishes.

ANy advice please?

    Read the T&Cs before signing.

They aren't in their T&C, at all!

Would advise that anyone thinking of signing up to these gym memberships, go to the park with either jogging or cycling - it has many perks, its FREE, its in YOUR TIME, its as flexible as YOU want it to be, your free to cancel whenever you wish, there are NO T&C's.

I totally agree...............unless you're interested in weight training and putting muscle on in which case a gym is the only realy option, unless you want to train Balboa style by pounding meat in a cold store!

Its also common sense that you have to give a FULL 3 months notice! When you signed up, they didn't say "You have to give 3 months notice, but 2 months and 23 days notice is fine too".

I'm leaving Bannatynes and I know that I have to give three full months notice, so knowing that I'll be ensuring they get my cancellation letter before my membership for June goes out, I won't wait until after my June membership goes out but still expect to be able to cancel at the end of Aug!

Toning up is not too difficult, if you have not got the weights, its far cheaper to buy a complete set than the total payments for any GYM.

Home-use high quality Body-Solid Combo Bench for successfully bench pressing at home.

    Our Price: £269.00

And thats just for starters - Besides which, a big sack of potatoes or bricks followed by some push ups do just as good as any Gym, and cost a hell of a lot less.

Just a shame they don't have the T&C in them, as anyone who knows how to read would have noted this little message-

I joined a David Lloyds in July 2008. The mimimum term was 12 months, which is fair enough.

In the end I decided to leave as it was very expensive for what you got. Unfortunately I didn't realise (yes it is in the T&C's) after the first 12 month period you have to give 3 months notice, which of course just drags it on and on.

My final payment to them was in January 2010 after I cancelled at the end of September.

Lesson learnt to definately read all the T&C's in future.

Absolute rubbish, and that is coming from a qualified personal trainer! You can achieve hypertrophy using nothing more than your own body weight if you know what you are doing (plyometrics/ callisthenics :j). Therabands, elastic tubing, Flexi-bar Athletic, Swiss ball and a pull-up bar are all easy to store. If you prefer to use weights you can buy a set of adjustable dumbells and/ or a barbell very cheaply - machine weights are far from the best way to get fitter and stronger.
