is it bad for flat screen tv to be switched off after use.

Hi, we have a flat screen tv and only use it at night. I want to switch it off at the plug to save electric for the 19 hours it's not in use. However I have been told it is bad for the tv and it should stay on standby, I would be thankfull for any input on this matter. I'm going on holiday soon, and usually it's left on standby for the week. Waste of money or essential? some wisdom please. Thanks
Sew it, knit it, glue it, reuse it , don't buy it

Switch it off using the off button on the tv, then unplug it.

I dont know about the OP but my tv does not have an 'off' button, it is simply a standby (which is different i believe). I would also like to knwo the answer to this. Currently when finished with teh tv i switch to standby and switch off at the plug. If this is damaging I may have to review my electric saving habit!

Hi, no I dont have a button on tv, thats why I was told not to do it. Sorry owain moneysaver I've got you confused now to. It's not going to save money if we have to replace tv sooner. Iwas told it damages the picture quality over time?

i doubt it would do anything to it to the set unless there's a problem with your power and its surging / spiking a lot

your not changing the heat cycle of the set by turning the power off when its already in standby and your not going to affect the rear light (if it has one) either if its already in standby

just carry on as you are, sounds like old wives tails like regassing plasmas :rotfl:
