You will need them if you get audited.

As I understand it, you are technically supposed to keep everything for 6 years or so, but you only need them if you're audited, and the tax office do understand if a few receipts here and there are missing, provided the rest are available for inspection.

I went on a business link tax course when I first went self-employed, I'd recommend doing one if you have a spare couple of hours, made everything so much clearer than the HMRC website.

ETA: They also mentioned that if you don't have a receipt but have a bank statement or internet banking printout showing it, they'll accept that instead.

    Hello everyone

I'm just trying to sort out my earnings and tax etc. Please can I ask you all a question? Do I need to keep receipts and car parking tickets? As I don't have any of my car parking tickets!

    Thank you for your help

    :)

I never keep my parking stuff. Oops. Think I had best start. In that case re asked for a receipt to be posted back. I assume a scanned image will do.
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

No, but I can't be bothered to pay to phone them and chase it. I'll just continue to send emails till they fix it.
Oh It's not just me then. I saw the first jobs in my area a day ago and signed up, now getting threatening emails about the dates. I can't find any way of putting them in either.

I have done a few jobs for TNS now and find work on their visit allocation system. If I click on the link for TNS sassie on page 1 of this thread I can also look on there, but I have only just found a job on there today. Is this a different TNS department, my fieldworker ID is different and I seem to be ready for a basic test but it won't let me complete it?
hi This is TNS International which seems different. I also can't get the test to open.

There's no difference whatsoever, both the sassie site and the mercury site are operated by the same company, TNS, from the same office by the personnel. TNS was taken over by Research International about 18 months ago which is why an awful lot has changed (all the AM's where made redundant, fees/mileage have decreased etc). They plan to move everything across to sassie eventually and have been using it for some jobs for about a year, whilst trialling other assignments on it too.

I have received 5 email alerts this afternoon for the Alerts Thread and yet everytime I check the last alert is for the department store cafes. Is this the last alert everyone can see? has anyone else received alerts this afternoon?

    Thanks
