Yes I did feel guilty, but was extremely stressed out... I had a tough pregnancy, and tough time emotionally, doctor actually advised not to give up because of my sitution because it would have probably caused more harm than good.. and tipped me over the edge.. I did manage to cut back a little..BSC Member #97- Discharged 4/2/09

i smoked through my 1st pregnancy but i did cut down, i smoked my last fag the day before my dd was born and havent smoked since, that was 3 years ago now. i did feel guilty for a little while but tbh i didnt think about it that much. funny but i cut out tea & coffee and only drank water and fruit teas but do you think i could put the fags down.. NOPE! and even when i didnt go for a cigarrette at work i still went in the smoke room with my friends and breathed their smoke inIt only seems kinky the first time.. :A0

Another `Bad girl` here, i smoked all the way through with all 4 kids, i know i should have stopped, but just couldnt manage it.
All 4 kids were born with no side effects and i went home with all of them after 6 hours after birth, 2 hours with my last. And each one was larger in weight than the child before, my last born being 9lb 6.!!!!
I do wished i had stopped.
Oh and my kids dont and never have lived off turkey twizzlers!! 3 homemade meals a day here!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
As a parent to be, surely anyone who is lucky enough to be pregnant should be thinking of giving their child every opportunity for a good start in this world and not depriving them of oxygen.
Parenthood is often about putting a childs needs before your own and this is a good opportunity for your friend to start doing so. However much she needs to smoke, get her to consider all those premature babies who are struggling for breath on ventilators and in incubators. Perhaps a chat with the midwife so that she can go and see them for herself.
Good luck to her but smoking really shouldn't even be an option.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -

One of my work collegues is pregnant and she tried to give up smoking but it was too stressful. So the doctor told her to keep smoking, just try and cut back as much as possible.0 -
If smokers are more likely to have smaller babies (as the information Ted posted seemed to suggest), why is that a bad thing?
I think the research mentioned on average the smokers' babies were 205g smaller than the non-smokers - isn't 205g about 7oz?
I'm a non-smoker, so the whole smoking when pregnant thing passed me by - I just wonder if anyone can tell me why having a baby that might have been less than half a pound bigger if you hadn't smoked is a bad thing?
Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but would be interested if anyone knows.

I thought I would never give up smoking, I liked it too much. I knew it was likely to kill me but it didnt bother me. I did avoid smoking around others tho as I didnt want to kill them!
Anyway I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks (total shock!) - at that time I was smoking 20 a day.
Over the next 2 weeks, I cut down to 3 to 5 a day. By the time I was 10 or so weeks pregnant I had given up.
My daughter is now 18 months and I am still not smoking. I will be honest and say that sometimes its still hard but those times are very rare now.
Can your friend honestly say that she doesnt feel really guilty when she lights up??? Even when I was only smoking 3 to 5 a day, I felt so bad. I felt like I was killing my child and that really hurt me. I couldnt have given up straight away.... I had to cut down first otherwise I would never have managed it but I will never forgive myself for those first 10 weeks.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -

I was the same, with my second pregancy I gave up, then because of stress ect, I misscarried, same with the third. I started again after my last miscarrage and then found out I was pregant again (I seem to be very fertile lol)
When I found out I was pregnant and we told OH sister who we were renting off, she put the house on the market because she assumed we couldnt afford the rent, had a lot of upset from her and I was highly strung all day, my midwife said that because the smoking calmed me down that I should continue. I have never been a big smoker, I have about 4 a day. During that pregnancy, I was made homeless, found out my nana was terminal who I had to care for, then she died, I had to move in with my mother (stressful at the best of times)
I went on to give birth to a 8lb 2oz boy induced 2 weeks early (I dread how big he would be if I went to term) because of extreme sciatica. He has no lung troubles or any other health problems what so ever.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Tobacco in Any Form Called a Heart Scourge
Adverse effects of both pre- and postnatal parental smoking on children's respiratory health were confirmed. Asthma was most strongly associated with maternal smoking during pregnancy, but postnatal exposure showed independent associations with a range of other respiratory symptoms. All tobacco smoke exposure has serious consequences for children's respiratory health and needs to be reduced urgently. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
