I gave up when i was 6 months pregnant with my daughter (now almost 16  ) and smoked right through with my son (now 9). They were both 9 pounders and no ill-effects thankfully.

Well done on giving up, i think you are giving your baby a better chance by not smoking. I hope you are able to carry on after the baby is born, just think, if you have gone 33 weeks without a cigarette, it should give you hope that you dont need one after!!!!!

When I was pregnant with DD1 I had about 7 cigarettes for the whole time I was pregnant and she was born very small (5lb 4) and caught a chest infection when she was 6 weeks old which kept reoccurring until she was about 18 months. She was also treated for asthma and put on a ventilator at the hospital. I started smoking again (but only 3 a day - I've only ever smoked 3 a day) soon after she was born but always went outside to smoke. With DD2 I gave up altogether when I was pregnant and she was born 7lb 4 but she still had reoccurring chest infections and was also treated for asthma. Now they are aged 11 and 9 and have not had a chest infection since they were about 2.

I gave up smoking my 3 a day 3 months ago and havn't really had many cravings for it.

God know why but I have always though you were a fellow, probably the picture. I followed your meal planner for a couple of weeks and we make the HM ice cream every week now :p

What with the money saved from smoking and yourself I am quids in.

Really glad to hear the kids are all good, its guilt that keeps me going, but it does sound like your kids were prone to asthma rather than due to you smoking as the 2nd also had it. I think asthma is rife amongst kids due to the amount of chemical in the home these days, they are even found in polar bears!!!

  • Well done for giving up Phatmouse!

I've never been a real heavy smoker, but i gave up when i found out with both pregnacy's. And yes it was hard but you have to do it...
We all know smoking is bad for you no matter what her doctor says it is bad for her and the baby, i do think people that refuse to give up are selfish and i absoultly hate people that smoke around their kids, really makes me angery!
my partner smokes but he has always smoked outside, be it sunshine or rain he goes outside!
I really hate it too when the parents say oh i dont smoke around my kids i just smoke in the kitchen whilst their in the front room..... if its in the house you are poluting the air your children live in!!

    No lectures at all.

But did you find yourself worrying at all, Vicky (my friend) seems happy because the doctor said its okay, I think she feels so guilty that she just won't admit it. I am not pushing her at all, she does not try to get me to smoke after all. I am not judging her either as she will be a great mum, I am just curious and don't want to question her too much as I think she may get upset, she only does in in private and pretends to work she has stopped so I know she is embarressed.

I struggled for a week to give up before finally quitting and everytime I had one I expected to bleed!!!
