What is the european market like at christmas, what stuff is there?

    Thanks

Last year they had a few food stalls from different European countries ( the sausages are yummy, especially on a crisp winter's day ;) ), cheese, pizza, etc. There was a stall which specialised in carved toys and ornaments, candle holders and so on. Jewellery stalls, semi-precious stones + crystals etc., knitwear and bags.
It is not huge but worth a look if you decide to go to Argyle Street & St Enoch's center

    Ifound the organiser's website

have a great time, whatever you decide.

Coming by car, if you want to shop in the city centre, I suggest you park in the St Enochs Centre, easy to find. But close to Xmas the whole town will be really busy and the parking awful. Suggest you need to be here at 9am to avoid having to queue for a space!! After 11am you can forget it!!

I have to say for Christmas shopping you're better in the city centre. There are far more shops, better variety as well as a few duplicated shops e.g. two Tops Shops, plus concessions in both Frasers and Debehnams. And kids seem to love eating in the bottom of Princes Square as Mum and Dad can have lunch and the kids can run around like all the other kids do in there!

Braehead is a decent enough shopping centre, but you wont find anything in there you wouldn't find anywhere else in the country.

I agree with MrsJ. I'm not a big fan of Braehead - personally I think a trek along Argyll St, up Buchanan and along Sauchiehall St can't be beaten for the range of shops you can cover

  • Definitely try the Fort too - its just off the M8 ...so you'll pass it on way up from Gretna........TK Maxx, Asda Home, Big Boots, Borders,Argos, various clothes shops and nice little cafs for a coffee stop.............then head over to Braehead!
  • I prefer Braehead. Free parking for one thing ;)

You could always get the boat from Braehead to the town, Ive done that a few times... its just that wee bit different

Join TGI Fridays website and you get loads of discount vouchers for eating there - there's one at Xscape at Braehead and will save you eating in the McDonalds / KFC mall part.
  • Just to let you know that a new Matalan store opened in Glasgow City Centre today in Jamaica Street (just behind Woolworths). Apparently, it's a 2-storey store. Didn't go along today to bag any bargains cause it didn't stop raining all day... :(

Also, Primark opens tomorrow morning at 9am in Argyle Street (in the old Littlewoods Store). Yipeeee! :j
    ;)

have to agree with you there Clairog, have never liked Braehead either.
City centre covers the most shops but am warming to The Fort now that most of the outlets are open.

For the Op, at The Fort, there's a massive carpark with free parking. Here's a store directory.

  • yes and the fort is open quite late on 10pm in some places, and its all brightly lit up at night with decent security walking about too, there is a creche for kids too and a small area with some good food places and the shops up there have a large range of popular products that can be sold out in other areas, for example, boots seem to have everything in stock and you get peace to walk around. there is a morrisons next to the fort shopping centre too which is quite good too.
