I would raise a dispute with the credit card company. Tell them you tried to cancel within the period but the firm wouldn't let you. No guarantees depends on how your credit card company look at it.
If that doesn't work then I fear you will have to accept losing the first payment but you can ensure you don't get a recurring payment by reporting your card lost. The credit card company will send you all new account details.
Dont worry about this dating site taking you to court you have more chance of winning the lottery.
Expensive lesson I fear.
Hi Optimist,
Thanks very much for your response.
Unfortunately I gave my debit card details to the company when I paid the £5, so I have absolutely no protection. Most people who have advised me have told me not to pay and not to worry as there is little this company can do if I have not used their services, so I have cancelled my debit card and the bank are re-issuing me with a new card.
When I signed up, I remember thinking that it was odd that the visible Ts and Cs on the website stated that if you were to cancel your membership before your first paid month is up, your profile would immediately be removed from the site, so, even though they advertise that the first month only costs £5, if I had cancelled before the 14 day cancellation period, my profile would be taken off the site immediately and I would have lost out on 2 weeks. This is why I chose to cancel just one week before my paid month was up. Their whole business conduct is totally unfair and extremely sneaky.0 -

Hi Natasha
I've made exactly the same mistake as you and it seems many many others. Have you finally managed to cancel your membership? I've been trying since the 30th August and I'm experiencing the very same problems you have in trying to get the site to acknowledge and action the cancellation. If you have succeeded please let me know how.
Best wishes

Hi Dove
Well, I had no luck with customer services who were talking absolute nonsense so I just cancelled my debit card so they couldn't take any money, and I never heard from them again! A bit of a hassle having to wait a week for a new card but compared to losing a lot of money, the best decision of action to take! The fact that they threatened at first to take money and then didn't chase me clearly shows that they are a scam company. I feel very sorry to all those poor people who have had money taken from them.
How have you got on?0 -
I had the same problem kind of. I was told to register with them, pay £5 and I would get 100 PlayFish points with FaceBook. This was supposed to confirm instantly.
I registered, paid £5 for the month and then checked my Facebook account and it hadn't confirmed. So 15 minutes later i requested to cancel my account and premium membership. I took the step by step guide on the website, and next I was directed to a screen telling me that i would then receive a cancellation code within the next 24 hours, by email.
9 days later... No cancellation code, Inbox full of spammy useless fake messages, and customer service are telling me how to request to cancel it, and ignoring the fact that i have already requested to cancel it and I'm now waiting for a code.
Please nobody use the site, they're just a huge con. They've really made a pretty big mistake in not returning my money, as they'll find out when i speak to one of my friends online.0 -
I'm in the same position as many people described here whereby Be2 deducted £149 without authorisation. Fortunately my bank has refunded the money and now Be2 say they will arrange legal action for the recover of the debt.
S does any one have experience of dealing with Be2 at this stage? Will they actually issue legal proceedings, when they are based in Luxembourg?

If you gets yer sens down the Dog and Duck on Grab a Granny night, things can really happen. And guess what, you only pay for what you want, Brenda will not rip you off and Alf can run you home in the back of his [STRIKE]van[/STRIKE] taxi if things do not work out.
Refunds I am afraid are at the discretion of Brenda.0 -
I am in the same position
I have been trying for ages to cancel and they just keep sending me the same email saying I am still under contract. I have cancelled my debit card, but they are still trying to get me to pay. They say the only way to cancel is to pay the subscription for a further 6 months and then to fax them to cancel.
I have refused and said that I will be seeking legal advice as I tried to cancel months ago.
They say that they are going to pass it over to their debt collectors.
Its driving me crazy. I have faxed my cancellation, but they still refuse.
Having looked at some other posts on the internet, I am just going to try and ignore them as recommended.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.0 -
When I started reading your post I though 'poor lady, duped by another unscrupulous seller hiding behinds pages of terms to deceive the user -- I do hope this ends well', but after just going to the website to see for myself and just having gone through the process on the website I think its quite clear what your signing up to.
After signing up free, you click 'premium membership' where thhe middle of 3 options is:£5 only New trial offer
(with 6-month renewal) Our most popular product
When you click on that, just a couple of lines below the form for card processing says:The be2 trial is risk-free, you can cancel your membership at any time with seven days notice. If you like our service, you will receive the full benefits of Premium Membership for an additional six months at the end of your trial period. You can enjoy these exclusive privileges for just £24.99 per month (total amount £149.94). Most of our members find their partner within this period, but by not cancelling (14 days notice) you can choose to continue your search for successive six month periods.
In order to get to this step alot of interaction is required.
I don't see how you can say their hiding behind confusing terms & conditions tbh!0
