I am currently with Force 9, having really major problems with them for the last few months, right now I have no access at all and havent had any for over a week, before that it was intermittent sometimes going a couple of days before it would come on for an hour or so. Anyway after several phone calls I spoke to someone the other night who was very arrogant to say the least, I ended up putting the phone down on him before I said something I would regret!!!! They just seem to be fobbing me off all the time and asking me to wait 5 days to see if each action is resolved, I dont know how many times I have been told they were passing the fault on to BT and yet again the other night I was told it would be passed to BT, when I said it was already with BT I was told it wasnt, eeekk!!!! I am so frustrated and Im afraid cold turkey is setting in, I have PC withdrawal symtoms!!! I am now going to send them a letter cancelling my account and cancel my direct debit payments with them. I told them this once before and they told me I would have to do it via email..............yeh right, when am I supposed to do that with no connection!!! I told them to accept over the phone that I was cancelling as I was going to stop my payments. They then threatened me with a third party debt collector if I did that. Well I am going to take the bull by the horns and just do it!!! Right now I need to know, how do I go about another provider? Do I just sign up as a new customer? Who is the best one to go with at the moment? I really havent a clue. Last time I migrated from Wanadoo so had a mac key or something? Can anyone help me out here. I am using someone elses computer to post this so will have to call back tomorrow to read your messages. Please help, I am tearing my hair out here. Also is there a minimum speed that I should be looking for??? Any help would be appriciated

If you just cancel without getting a MAC from your current provider, your line will need to be re-activated again for ADSL and you will be charged for this by most ISP's, as they will have to pay BT to do this. Read the AOL thread as this seems to be a current good offer with AOL silver for £9.99 per month.

Any idea how much you download/upload a month? A lot of the cheap deals are restrictive - but may me sufficient if your usage is pretty low.0

Hey Susi,
Has Force9 done proper troubleshooting with you? If they haven't, the problem may be caused by something as simple as faulty microfilters.
I wrote an article which is posted on ADSL Guide on how to troubleshoot speeds up to 8Mb. Have a look at the section on microfilters and the section on testing from the master socket from within the test socket.
Testing from the master socket will rule out the problem being caused by your internal wiring. If it's a problem with your wiring, this is something that you can arrange to have fixed with someone locally (your local telephone wiring expert).
If you do change providers, I would recommend doing this by getting a MAC if you can from your current providers. If you do switch providers and the problem that you're experiencing is caused by a line fault (which BT have to resolve) this will still be a problem with your new provider - however your new provider may be more proactive in resolving the problem.
