You can cook porridge in a small flask all you do is put a handful of oats into the flask with a tablespoon of dried milk and just cover with boiling water wait about 5 inutes and its creamy and perfect. You can then add a drop milk if you want. I even just do the same in a small bowl, just cover with a suitable lid or foil, its fine for me.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

I make instant porridge and just boil a kettle at work;
whizz up the oats in a food processor (can keep a tub of these ready to go) scoop in to tupperware tub with a spoonful of milk powder and sugar if necesssary, top up with boiled water at work and keep warm for about 4 minutes till the almost powdered oats have swollen.

i've never managed to get microwaved porridge to taste as nice as porridge done on the hob
i like it with apple sauce (because it's easier than stewing apples when you're bleary eyed in the morning), sultanas and cinnamon :drool:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
When I do my LO's porridge I just heat the milk in the microwave and stir it into the readybreak type oats to stop all the mess.0

So what's the difference (in taste) between adding milk vs water.
I've never tried porridge before, but as this thread makes it look easy to make I think I'll give it a try?
Even once the milk / water decisions been made, I then have to make the savoury salt, or sugary sweet decision - I may split my first batch into two, and try half with salt as a main course, and half with raisins for desert0 -
Personally I like it made with water. Just a drop of milk poured round the edge once it is in the bowl. But perhaps that is because it is how my mum used to make it. Not with a microwave though. I've just tested you guys (;)) and I have perfect porridge. I like mine fairly stodgy so I used 25g of oats and 180ml of milk, that plus some golden syrup and raisins and I'm good to go.
