I do mine just copied from how I used to do the sachets.. Tesco Value oats, 25g oats, 250-280 milk, microwave on high for 2 mins then see if it needs anymore.. (sorry dunno the wattage of the micro as it is one of those so old its practically gas powered... has a dial and ya can't do less than 1 min)
EDIT I think i guessed the milk amount wrong sorryWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

I can't believe it takes 6 mins in the microwave, it only takes 3 mins in a saucepan... whats the point ?#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I use a recipe of 1 measure (usually half a teacup for two people) oats plus one teacup of milk, mix then microwave for 3 minutes.
I usually add lots of raisins before heating and it is delicious like that, with a dash of cold milk to finish.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -

Mine only takes 3 minutes in the microwave, but even so, I find it easier to microwave as I don't have to watch or stir it. Just put it on and get on with getting ready.
Also eat it out of the bowl, so less mess.
I add a handful of frozen berries before cooking, then stir in greek yoghurt at the end, just before eating.
Occassionally I add raisins then stir in some cinnamon. Or maybe tinned rhubarb. Other times chopped fresh apple with cinnamon. Nearly always add greek yoghurt at the end because it's delicious and adds protein which keeps me going longer:T

I use a Tala measure (and a big plastic jug) One oz (on the Rolled Oats scale) oats per person, then using the same scale 2 oz milk and 1 oz water.
(so still the three to one ratio mentioned earlier) and 'zap' a minute or two, stir, then 1 min, stir, 1 min, stir...
Value oats used too.
MUCH quicker/easier and cleaner than a pan. Mind you I make cheese sauce, scrambled eggs & custard (separately lol) in mine...now if you think porridge is easy you should try all in one cheese sauce - pips!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Hi all
Just wondered if someone can tell me the formula for making porridge in the microwave? I tried it once and it went all over the microwave taking ages to clean up.
I am using loose oats. How much in proportions and for how long in microwave please? Also should it be on full power?
Many thanks
All the foregoing answers seem very complicated, been doing mine in the microwave for years. (About 650/700 Watt) - 2 1/2 mins total + stir.
1 measure (using yoghourt pot or whatever) of oats then 2 equal measures of water. (Or milk, or one of each if preferred). Straight into breakfast or cereal bowl. Give 1 1/2 mins on full power. Open door, give good stir, (important to stop expanding up over edge of dish). Give one more minute and all done!!
Beats cleaning up a saucepan afterwards anytime.
Just add milk & sugar, or whatever grabs fancy. and eat!

It depends how thick you like it I use 30g of oats, cover them with milk in a jug and then microwave for 70 seconds or an extra 30 if its too thin.0

I am of the opinion that it is better to slightly 'undercook' porridge as it seems to still cook (thicken) while you're eating it......0
