So there you go. No need to stay at home the gas company will be generous enough to let themselves in and do the job without you. No need for a day off work.

Be aware they "may" be able to force entry into your property to complete the necessary work to your meter.

    No..that will not happen.

Contractors working on behalf of SGN do not have a right of entry.

Only approved and certificated officers of an Emergency Service provider have that right without a warrant and must have due reason.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Bonus then, you get the box moved to outside so no more needing access and you get a meter that complies with current regulations.

Oh, that's the thing, it's not a meter box for me they want to put on my wall (and it is my wall), it's one for my upstairs neighbour.

Is it your wall or is the place rented, if so it is your landlords wall, as such they only need his permission and you did say they told you that your meter was illegal thus implying that was the meter they was moving.

So if they need to put a meter box outside your upstairs neighbour's flat, can you please explain where you think it should go?

If you can also explain it to Southern Gas Networks, I am sure they would be delighted to hear about it too.
