Calling Bali (Indonesia)

Don't know if anybody can help me but any ideas would be gratefully received!
My girlfriend is on an educational course on the island of Bali for 4 weeks.
She originally hoped to stay in touch with me in the UK using Skype as she believed she would have access to a computer. She has now found however that where she is staying has no computer so this is not an option.
She has her uk mobile with her which is on O2 but we have found out that for me to call her on my mobile (on Orange), costs us both a small fortune (as does texting).
She doesn't have access to a landline so it seems our options are quite limited.
Has anybody got any ideas on how to make calling cheaper, either uk mobile to uk mobile or landline in the uk to mobile.
Many thanks if you can help us out.

From personal experience using a local SIM and a service like Planet Numbers is the way to go.

The SIM will require the phone to be unlocked but basic phones are cheap there.0 -
0844calls.co.uk provide UK to Indonesia calls for 3p/min (to both landlines & mobiles), so if she can find a local phone/SIM to receive your calls on, that will probably be the cheapest way... Just dial 0844 439 15 15, then enter the Indonesian number.
If she can buy a PAYG Indonesian SIM card, that's probably the way to go.0
