Failed to fulfill mobile contract, how does it work?
I had a 12 month Vodafone contract in early 2007.
I had paid first 2 months, but due to financial problems I couldn't fulfill the remainder of the contract. The debt has been since passed on to a collection agency, but I haven't recieved anything from them for a while now, probably since 2008.
I was just wondering how it works now. does this go away and Vodafone will give me a second chance or will I still be blacklisted with them? is it like defaulting and they unblacklist you over time?
Can someone explain how it works. Thank you.

Each network has its own rules. On the one I work for you'd have been listed as a default. If you tried to get another contract you'd be refused until you'd paid off the old one.
At some point the debt will be passed to a collections agency (who'll add their own fee's) and they'll come looking for you.
The debt remains live for, I think, 6 years from the last contact.0 -

Yeah, I haven't had a letter from the collection agency for a while. How do I go about finding them? i forget the name of the company.
I know with loan defaults it's on your credit rating for 6 years, so it's just same then.
Anyway, thanks for responding!0 -
If you call Voda and get the billing team they should be able to tell you which agency it is.0

The default must be placed within 6 months of your last payment causing the default to occur.
The debt itself (remaining length of contract) is active for 6 years since last payment or written acknowledgement. So if you pay/write to them about it, the clock is reset back to 6 years. i.e. pay £5 towards the debt every 5 years and it will keep it active.
However once there has been a gap of 6 years (5 years in Scotland), the debt is statute barred.
However if a CCJ is obtained for the debt, it will never go statute barred.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Dont know - but I obtained my Voda SIM only while still paying Lowell for a old Voda contract that defaulted in November 2006. However it was one payment off paid and I have since changed my name so I dont know whether or not that affected it but they knew it was the same address so it didnt seem to affect it.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

If you'd been paying off the old one and keeping the payments up that would be in your favour.
Changing your name (or address) doesn't help if you default again. We can still find ways to link you to the old acc. I come across people every day have have defaults on acc(s) and have given a different address or maiden name ect. But that's on acc's where they're deliberately trying to pull the wool over our eye's.0 -
Dont plan on defaulting again!! My bills in 3 months have been less than the one I defaulted on in 1 month  Old account had about £50 of a £300 and something bill left - its now marked satisfied in full on my credit file as it was paid off about 3 weeks after my new contract started - never missed a payment to Lowell. My name has only changed slightly so it would easy enough to find me anyway I imagine!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I'm sorry if I put that badly, I wasn't implying you were!
It was meant as a general comment rather than a dig at you! (I must learn to read back what I've written before I press post!!)...0
