Which charities do you support?

I don't support any charity on a regular (monthly) basis, but I do give a large donation 2-3 times a year to each of my "pet" charities.
I have always believed that giving to those less fortunate is an important part of life & something I try to do even when cash is very tight - there will always be somebody worse off than me :)

My current charities are:
Royal British Legion
Air Ambulance (amazing work, no government funding & one day I may need one!)
RNLI (never know when you may need a lifeboat!)

I wonder which charities other favour with their donations?

    I support these;

    The Royal British Legion
    Help for Heroes
    Royal Air Force Association
ASSISI Animal Sancturary (where I got Daisy Cat from)
And a new Forces related charity,Holidays4Heroes which has been going for 2 years now & ran by ex-servicemen & women. It originated on the website ARRSE,The ARmy Rumour SErvice one christmas when it came to light of a ex soldiers plight.
Donations from members flooded in & within 24Hrs,the ex soldier was sorted.
Since thenit's grown now & the main aim is to send injured servicemen & their families as well as the families of servicemen kia over to Spain for a break or recouperation.

We tend to do sporadic fund raising for different charities, mainly choosing small ones, or a cancer one.

We support Forever Angels, Mary's Meals and Kitchen Table Charities most

Amesty, action aid, oxfam and a local wildlife trust as I thought I should have at least one in this country, with regular monthly payments.
Plus occasional donations to disaster funds.
I avoid telethons like children in need etc like the plague. Not querying that they do good work, but I resent the implication they seem to promote (or rather that the money collections promote) that everyone should be involved or there's something wrong with you.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Hello Sam, i much prefer to help the smaller charities, the biggies tend to spend too much for my liking on expenses and high salaries for the big shots.

Can you give me (by pm if you like) some information about the charitis mentioned here, they sound just my cup of tea to donate to.

I have given monthly to Barnados for quite a few years now and also raise money each year for Rainbows Childrens Hospice. I always like to give to people for doing something like running a marathon. We recently had a girl at work who just climbed I think it was Everest for charity!

I always try to put something however small in the pot whenever someone is collecting. And I try to give a decent donation for disaster funds.

I resent some of the bigger charities abusing the system.

Not long ago the Irish Air Ambulance closed because they total raised was around £700k yet all that physically went to the air ambulance was £60k So much was spent on admin, high salaries, people went on fundraiser trips and did nt think twice about their high hotel bills. It's happening all over, the cancer research, the age concern, etc etc etc.
Give the tramp who is obviously in need a cup of soup sitting outsied a bus station a sandwich and a cup of soup, he get 100% of your gift, give to the biggies and the people in actual need get around 20%of your donation.

            Brook Farm Animal Sanctuary
Dog's Trust (Sponsered two dogs there).
            PET Welfare (sanctuary in staffordshire)
            Penine Pen Kennels.

Basically animal ones that are no-kill. Used to support the RSPCA and Wood Green till I found out they put healthy animals down.
