Catford, there are so many little bots floating around the web looking for the '@' symbol and then taking the stuff around it as an email address. I have been spammed within 20 minutes of setting up a new email account.

As Browntoa says gmail seems to be quite good. Yahoo also has a pretty good spam filter. I generally keep seevral public email address and separate private email addresses. As things are received to the public email address I move them to the private ones for storage (they get very little spam).

I agree with Ivan, I'm very pleased with Yahoo and it's spam filter, and it's new Beta Mail is excellent. Spam is a way of life, sadly, so it's down to your spam filter, mail washer etc.

You should be asking how the spammers got your email address so quickly.

Of course you could have a real easy username for spammers to use like mike111 or johnsmith33 etc...

If it is just where you forget to check/uncheck the box about passing on your info etc... or you make posts on some forum with your real address then it doesn't matter who hosts your address you have to change your ways.

If it is orange and it isn't buried in their t&cs somehere that they can pass on your email address then you should a) ditch orange and b) complain/sue them.

BTW I receive about 800-900 spam emails per day. I take measures to keep them out of my inbox but they still hit the mail queue and use some bandwidth :spam: :wall:
NURSE: "Shouldn't it be sterilized, doctor?"
DR. BENWAY: "Very likely but there's no time."

Actually I get spammed quite a lot of several googlemail accounts I have like Rollec watches and all that rubbish, the spam filter tends to catch most of it though.

EDIT Sorry I made a few spelling mistakes last night

I find Spamihilator pretty good which, after a bit of "training", catches 99% of spam:

I'm with Freeserve too, now Orange. The spam has increased significantly in the last few months. Also the web interface has stopped remembering my details.

AND. Orange keep on going on about popups on their opening page, they're one of the main bloody culprits for doing it!!!!!!!!

Not happy since they've taken over.

I received a year's free trial with http://www.spamjab.com/ and it did exactly what it says on the website - it stopped spam 100% in it's tracks.

There's no software to download as it intercepts the spam at source. After the year they offered the service for a fee but I didn't subscribe as I'd changed my e-mail anyway.

I've looked on the website today and they are still offering the service for free to new subscribers. In fact I might sign up again! Would definitely recommend it.

    From website:
Spamjab has been designed specifically to protect your family from ALL spam. It is the first anti-spam service in the world to guarantee to stop 100% of all Spam getting through.

If a single Spam gets through to any registered member of your family in the first 30 days we will give you a full refund.

There is no software to download, just a simple registration process that takes less than 5 minutes.
The service is free for now:
