I wouldn't say to anyone not to go to a private caravan, staying in our private caravan during the summer months saves several hundred pounds even adding the cost of the passes. As far as i know we are generally cheaper than the same caravan booking through Haven, including the cost of passes.
plus in a private owners caravan, you know excatly what caravan you are getting, exactly where on the park the caravan is..Most owners have lots of extra's that Haven dont provide:
eg we supply free of charge:
Travel cot, you have to pay for these with Haven
    Bed guards, " " " " "
clip on chair for the table, " " "
Door safty guard.. dont think you can hire those
microwave, not all haven's accomadation supply these
Video and dvd players along with video's and dvds to watch,
A large selection of books, puzzles, games and toys for children and adults
    side lights in lounge
    32" flat screen tv
15" flat screen tv in main bedroom
    hair dryer,
    large selection of kitchen extras,
bedside lights in the main bedroom,
    Outside seating.
we can provide linen at a small extra cost.. cheaper than Haven
    Early check in time.
    Etc etc

I know some offers of Haven are really good, as you say you can get breaks cheaper than our guests can buy the passes for.. But they are not normally top of the range caravans..

well worth looking and comparing both prices from Haven and private owners

I've got a private caravan booked at a Haven site, and funnily, it's got all those extras ..... Which is why I booked it, it'll save me heaps of packing if I don't have to take a cot, highchair, changing mat etc.
