Jailbroken Iphone advice please

Morning ,

I've currently got and old 2G iphone and thought it was about time I upgraded so i've just bought a secondhand 3G which is jailbroken. Now when I recieve it do I just sync it with my itunes as normal? As i understand it if i update to the 3.1.3 i would undo the jailbreak , is that right?

It is now no longer a problem. get the new spirit jailbreak, can't give yo link here sorry but google will do it. Upgrade the iPhone to 3.1.3 and then run spirit. You will have a new jailbroken model and even better it is no longer tethered so you can power down any time. The spirit site explains all.

Don't want to sound dim but what is tethered?

Taken from another forum -

Tethered means that the jailbreak needs to be reapplied every time you power down your iPhone. If you let the battery run to zero or restart your iPhone then you will need to reapply the jailbreak by connecting to your computer.

You can sync with itunes without upgrading to 3.1.3 & do not upgrade the iphone to 3.1.3 if it was jailbroken to allow you to use any sim.

You must upgrade to 3.1.3 if you want to use spirit and have untethered if it is already jailbroken.

last question now , i promise! lol will the cydia stay on whilst i'm upgrading and re jailbraking or will i need to download that again too?

Cannot be 100% sure but I had to reinstall all non apple apps as the upgrade also does a restore that wipes them, but as everything bar a couple cydia included was already in an apps folder on my pc this was a simple drag and drop job the redo cydia and other two online. Don't worry read the instructions on spirit site, so simple even a politician could do it.
