Gloss or Satinwood for Interior Doors and Skirting Boards?

Hi guys,
We have nearly finished doing up our property. We are now at the painting stage. We have completely refurbished it. We were going to paint all our doors and skirting boards in white Gloss but one of our workmen said they should be done in Satinwood. I always thought Satinwood marks easily, isn't as hardwearing and of course you don't get the shine with it, but he was adamant that we should use Satinwood. So which one should I be using, Gloss or Satinwood?

Satinwood is seen as more trendy, less glossy etc. I would go for gloss, looks clean and stands up to everyday life!0

I think its down to personal taste. I always use satinwood, as I prefer the duller finish but it does mark easier than gloss does.0

It's not compulsory - it's just a personal choice thing;)
But modern versions of Satin finish are hard wearing, resistant to all bar the most obnoxious of (other people's??) children. And, importantly, are relatively odourless to apply. So you don't need to feel sick, for weeks, if you have the whole house to do. And brushes just rinse out in a drop of soapy water - so no turps smell coming up the plug hole every time you use the sink!
But - if using it on bare internal wood - use a good quality acrylic primer first. Otherwise it lacks a bit of 'depth' when compared to a couple of gloss coats. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I reckon the doors I've painted in satinwood finish have stayed whiter than ones I've painted in the gloss.0

i found it scratched really easily, but thats just my experience, my wedding ring , my car keys, ect ect, never had that trouble with glossYou're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on0

I have used Satin finish on all my woodwork. I think it is easier to apply than gloss , I have 2 boys definately stands up to their knocks etc. It does get grubby on stairs etc but not too much bother to clean .I like the Dulux have been disapointed with B & Q s especilly the multi area paint..And I don't think it seems to be 'yellowing ' as much. Looks great on windowsills.0

We are painting the woodwork at the mo. I bought Satin finish first but it just didn't look right - looked like emulsion had got onto the woodwork - so I bought a non drip Gloss from Crown. Strangley enough it isn't very glossy and is the exact effect I was after - a light sheen but not shiny shiny.I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

It depends on personal taste and the rest of the decor in the room. Some rooms I've done in gloss, some in satin. Here I go again on my own....0
