We haven't booked it yet, we're booking with Virgin, seen some nice ones for around £3.5k but saving clubcard vouchers to go towards it so it'll either make it cheaper or we can push the boat out a bit for a more expensive one.
£6.5k sounds like a lot but I bet it'll be fabulous.I :heart2: saving money0 -
mine was going to be a £1000 but its completely impossible (just us and approx 30 guests most of which have a 400mile round journey). we have been pricing a local town hall (still have to pay registrar to attend as its not a register office) and that along with a casual meal in nearby restaurants (got quotes from 4) is going to cost £2200-£2500 and thats non alcoholic as we dont want alcohol and none of the quotes included coffee/tea or soft drinks either
((((. oh and thats a mid week price out of season too and just a meal as we dont want an evening do (to try and save money)
(( cannot believe it can cost that much for a town hall and a restaurant for that small a number!! we are now considering a nearby venue which initially seemed dearer but is not much more than that and we will know guests dont have to worry about parking etc etc. but the downsides to that is that wed need smarter clothes due to the venue etc. so we cannot find anything for approx 30 guests a casual meal low key ceremony along with a photographer and clothes for under £3k. i cant believe it is this expensive though as i dont want flowers or cake or anything like that and its still triple my original budget.

Ours came to a bit under £6k, excluding the honeymoon.
We didn't have a budget per se but thought it'd come to about £3.5-4k. The wedding rings cost £1k and the dress £600.
I couldn't have wanted anything more with the wedding: it was perfect.
I actually can't think of anything else to spend money on (now!). I had the most gorgeous dress (it was going to be a Landy copy, but I got a proper Maggie and I'm so glad I did), an excellent photographer (£275 for 2.5 hours and the RAW files so I can make my own album), made my own bouquet and the button holes, got flat wedding shoes made for me as I'd fall over in heels, a splendid 3 tier cake, bought a camcorder so a friend could record the whole thing (and he did a fantastic job), and the venue was perfect - a 4* restaurant in a manor with staff where nothing was too much bother and the food was exquisite.
Honestly, we had everything we needed - how we could have spent 'the average' on a wedding I really don't know. Before getting married I could have listed many, many things, but on the day everything really was perfect and I wouldn't change any of it.
We booked a week in the Maldives for £3.5k with the intention of having about £500 spending money.
Fortunately, we went out the during the volcanic ash, so our 1 week turned into 2 and we didn't quite spend £500 over the two weeks.0 -
Ours is looking like it'll be around £7,250. We're very lucky, as my parents have said they'll give us £5,000 which will soften the blow if interest rates (and hence the cost of our mortgage) go up. If they don't go up too much, we'll probably use the money for a honeymoon.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

My wedding is coming in around 6-7K.... That's not including the honeymoon (asking for vouchers for this) and my dress (my dad is paying, approx 1K!)
It's much more than we originally wanted to spend (5K) but were paying this on the venue alone... it does include day and evening food for 70, drinks with dinner, DJ, the staff decorating the tables.
Luckily we have a friend who is doing the formal pictures and lots of other friends who are amateur photographers so I'm hoping we get lots of informal photos from them! :j:)Baby due 2/2/2012!!:)0 -
We originally plannned around 5k, this was with us having the meal and reception at ours. We're now having it closer to home and were still planning 5k but I've just cut my day guest list in half so hoping for way under this!
We originally wanted a cheapish do with a mega bucks honeymoon but for the day we want it would be a few thousand so we're going to see how we go then book a honeymoon for straight after new year rather than straight after the wedding as it'll bring the cost down and we can still have the once in a lifetime holiday0 -
Ours is about £15K including 3 nights in Singapore and 8 nights in Bali....what amazed me most were the Church fees, about £700 I think. Our photographers are costing about £1500, but thats the only part of the day you see forever, so I wanted to get that right, the rest, whilst great on the day, no one will remember in 10 years time (like favours etc). To me it was the photographers and relaxing honeymoon after all the stress that was most important!!
This thread just goes to show though you can do it for a whole lot less than the £20k average that wedding magazines will have you believe!!

Hey guys my wedding was only £1000 (6yrs ago) that included honeymoon, outfits, everything. Our food was our present from my mum and the photographer was pressie from inlaws, also hotel for wedding night was a pressie but apart from that we paid for everything else. We still had about 50 guests in day and 150 at night we didnt have a sit down meal which helped loads with costs. we were only young and wanted to spend time and money enjoying married life so kept it modest but exactly how we wanted it! if we had our time again i would do it just the same even now! Honeymoon was last min deal to turkey and rings were bought with v good deal!
my friend is getting married and having a huge doo and spending a stupid amount of money poss almost at 30K now which is fine cause her choice etc but thing that drives me insane is bridesmaids and all men hiring suits have all had to pay for there own also have done important things on cheap and other things that dont matter she has spent stupid money! ps 30K does NOT inc the month honeymoon they r taking!!
Defo think its personal choice tho and everybodies day shud reflect them!!0 -
we started off at about 1k (not including a honeymoon) this was a registry office wedding with a bbq reception in our garden.
Now it is going to be much less.
so far it is
giving notice - 67
spiritualist church - 45
suits - 100/150
dress - 50/100 (im having it made by a cousin so i only have to pay for the fabric)
rings - 50 (other half works in a very labourous job and i always have my hands in the washing up bowl etc, so dont want anything expensive)
presents for best man, cousin (making dress) and my auntie (organising the reception) i have painted my aunti a picture..not sure about the other 2 yet
bouncy castle - 50
im not having flowers..but if i do i will get trhem from my garden probably.
photographer FREE (probably a contribution towards petrol tho)
My auntie has offered to do the reception at hers and has ever so kindly offered to pay but if she hadnt we were looking at about 250 for food and some drink.
so the grand total is not including the reception...512. including reception 7620 -
I'm expecting about £4000-£5000 planning for April 2011. I haven't got very far with arranging things so time will tell. I'm having to be very careful with costs as am we're in process of buying our first house so finances are very much stretched at the moment. I will certainly be making use of MSE for lots of tips and ideas!0
