Eon- Pretending to investigate fraud

On arriving home the other day, I spotted what I thought were canvassers next door.
10 minutes later, they were at my door.
It was EON but not canvassers, or so they said, but fraud investigators.
They told me my gas suppliers and said that they (eon) were the first party and sold the gas to my supplier to sell to me.
They said, they were investigating fraud committed by my supplier and told me I was paying a standard charge and these charges are illegal.
They also told me that they were charging me more per gas unit than the law allowed and that they, while investigating the fraud, would help me claim back this money.
He asked me my monthly spend which really pricked my suspicions especially when he started typing it into his touchpad.
He asked about winter per month spend and summer month spends etc
And I had cottoned on.
They were attempting to sign me up to EON by trying to persuade me that they were taking legal action and to get a refund I had to sign their documents.
I told them I appreciated the time they took to tell me all this but that it was utter "testicles"
Eon have since received a call and I am awaiting their response!!!
Only one attempt at fraud here and it wasnt my supplier trying to commit it!

I was visiting my Parents recently when there was a knock at the door.
I answered the door to two asian gents representing EON (both had ID cards but who on Earth knows what an official EON ID Card looks like??), one had a clipboard, the other was busying himself reading mums gas meter (he opened the door thing with his own key)
I asked what he was doing, his reply "I am checking your tariff.... do you know sir, you are paying too much for your Gas?"
I asked him to explain to me how he could tell what tariff I was on by looking at the meter.
He waffled.. I stopped his waffle and asked him to explain how.. he waffled again so I told them both to fook off.
I hate to think what would have happened if I wasn't visiting and mum answered...0 -
Last time I opened the door to an energy salesman - I forget (or never knew) which company - he was a young white chap who asked if I'd had my tariffs 'done'. When I told him that I hadn't a clue what he was talking about, he pulled a shock/grimace face as if to say "oh dear, better do something about that.." Still, I told him that I had compared prices online and was confident that I have the best deal!0

We had Scottish Power trying out the old 'you're paying too much etc etc' I told him to f*ck off and he hasn't been back so far....
I had one of those last month too...funny as I had only recently changed from SP to NPower. Told me about this new tarif, worked out it would save me loads of money and that I would pay only £30 a month for gas and electric, whereas NP were charging me £66. Came back later to apologise and said that his manager said to keep it in line with the neighbours rates it would have to be £70 a month...which, if my maths is correct, is £3 dearer than NP.
He also gave me the single unit price instead of Economy 7, even though he knew I was on this, he even looked at the meter. Worked it all out myself and what he tried to sign me up for was even more expensive due to his tariff error. Rang SP CS and the nice lady was very apologetic that he had given me the wrong unit prices and had been misleading about the monthly charge. Needless to say I'm staying with NP.
As an aside, another energy supplier came round yesterday, Southern Electric or similar I think. Asked if anyone else had been round, told him SP had and he said 'I suppose they told you they could save you loads of money?' Told him I was with NP online and he said straight out that he couldn't beat them and if SP came back again to tell them to naff off :rotfl:Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000
Original MF date Feb 2025. Currently Feb 2030:eek: Aiming for Jan 2025 :TMortgage at [STRIKE]10/19 - £47,200[/STRIKE] 11/19 - £46,615:heart:My girls keep me going0 -
Hi sivyour and Apples2,
Sales representatives acting on behalf of E.ON or any energy company should not be behaving in the ways you have documented on this thread.
All E.ON face to face sales representatives should adhere toThe Code of Practice for Face-to-Face Marketing of Energy Supply. Our Sales Representatives are trained and recruited based on the EnergySure program which runs with The Code.
Full details of this scheme and Code can be found on the Energy Retail Association (ERA) website.
We have a complaints process in place for when The Code is not adhered to and I urge everyone who experiences behaviour as seen in this thread to contact us immediately as sivyour has already.
The Code carries set standards and when these are not met, can lead to re-training and in some circumstances agents are unable to work in energy industry sales again.
If you require the details of who to make your complaint to I can provide this, alternatively the information is available on the ERA website.
I apologise to those for you that have received poor service or have seen a poor standard from our Sales Agents.

I (briefly) worked for a utility company a few years back and they used agency sales people. I used to hear some terrible mis-selling stories and came away feeling that they chose not to employ the people directly so that they didn't have to dealt with the fall out. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

Brian (E.ON Company Representative) what do you think of the call by both Help The Aged and the Trading Standards Institute to completely ban the door-to-door selling of energy products? Why do you think they are calling for that ban if, as you say, most of these reps stick to that code of practice? Something must be wrong. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0
