  • Bedford's bi-annual river festival is on 21 & 22 July - it's the UK's largest free, outdoor 2 day festival :) There are the usual overpriced food stands etc. but the festival is in town, so you can get to the shops, pubs etc. rather than being tied in to carrying your own food around or buying at 'festival prices'...

" Staged on the picturesque Victorian Embankment, Promenade, the River Great Ouse and in Russell Park, the Festival is a unique combination of the carnival, the musical, and of course, the nautical! From the traditional launch of the Festival with the parade, to the five live music stages, countless River activities, fireworks, the opportunity to participate in our arts, heritage or sports villages, and stroll through our continental market and taste cuisine from around the world; there is literally something for everyone at the Bedford River Festival."
If you lend someone £20 and never see them again, it was probably £20 well spent...

    Hello,

The town of Eastleigh, Hampshire are holding a free 2 day event 15/16 September 2012.

This is a family friendly Mardi Gras style event with lots of dancing, music, displays, exhibits, competitions, food stalls etc, all being held on Leigh Road recreation ground and around the town centre. Events on Saturday culminate in a walking procession around the town.

Please see the website for further information eastleighmardigras.co.uk

    Regards

    Sarah

The Pier Stage on the waterfront at Nelson Street will be headlined by Spiritualized and Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, with the latter topping a day of Northern Soul and Rock. Both bands will be supported by a great line-up of acclaimed and up-and-coming acts - from the surrounding area and across the globe - including:

    • Hope & Social – described as ‘Brilliant, uplifiting’ by Michael Eavis after their Glastonbury Festival performance
Making a pit stop at Wellington Street, the E20Yellow Bus Stage will be transporting a variety of artists from the northof England and Europe to FREEDOM. This area of the Fruit Market will also feature street artists, food, drink and lots more entertainment.

Spiritualized, led by Jason Pierce have been broadcasting their interplanetary indie spacerock since the 1990’s to great critical acclaim. Martha Reeves is one of Motown’s brightest stars and has produced some of the most infectious R&B of all time with tracks such as ‘Nowhere to Run’, ‘Dancing in the Street’, ‘Heatwave’ and ‘JimmyMac’. She continues to thrill audiences around the world.

For further programming details, visit Facebook at ‘Freedom Festival Hull’ or the Freedom Festival website.

NB: The international stars top the bill of a varied music programme which forms part of the cultural extravaganza running at various venues across Hull city centre. The music shows complement a number of indoor and outdoor free and ticketed events that are also taking place as part of the Festival including comedy, cabaret, dance, art shows and street theatre which are available to see for a fraction of their usual price too.
