With regards to how much Halifax are paying thier reward account customers per month, I was under the impression it was £5.00.

Thanks for your answer, I should have stated, how much in total, not per person.

As a matter of interest, I wonder how much Halifax are paying each month to their reward customers?

I believe they opened just over 1 million new Reward accounts during 2009 (the account was introduced in Feb 2009); however, this figure only includes when a brand new account was opened, and not when an existing Halifax account was changed to the Reward account.

When I was declined their high interest current account about 18 months ago the CSA who was quite surprised as my financial standing is good and stable suggested the 'length of my relationship' with Halifax may have had an effect (I had savings and a credit card with them but only opened approx 1 month before), I left it a few months and applied for a Reward account when they became available and was accepted no problems, so if you haven't already - get a savings acc and leave it open a few months before trying again, if you still want the account that is!

I'm a student, had no previous accounts with Halifax and 6 current accounts. I had no problem getting an account so I don't understand why you would.

If you don't ask for an overdraft, you won't be credit-checked as you're not asking for unsecured credit. I have an A+L account and CitiBank accounts with no overdraft, I wasn't credit checked and they don't appear on my credit record.

That's rubbish. All current accounts are credit scored. If you don't ask for an overdraft the pass mark is lower.

People with appauling credit can't get full current accounts which is why basic accounts (like Barclays Cash Card, Halifax Easycash, and Co-Operative Cashminder) exist.

Full current accounts are fully credit checked and credit scored because they auto-generate internal pre-approved limits for credit cards, overdrafts, and loans. Basic accounts don't.

Wrong, three years ago I got a full HSBC current premier account with overdraft a savings account and a mastercard, at the time I had a CCJ and 2 defaults which I declaired to them. It all depends on your salery and how much you are willing to deposit with them, I was able to deposet in a fixed ter account an amount that far exceeded the overdraft and CC limit so had no problems.
