ADSL Phone line cancellation charge

I just contacted plus.net to cancel the service and have been told that I have to pay £25 to have the line disconnected, even though I have already forked out over £100, for the connection, when I signed up almost 2 years ago.

I joined in September 2008, but am told that is when they had already changed their terms and conditions, not that I was ever told that I would have to pay for disconnection by any of their staff.

Where do I stand on this? Is it something extra that I have to pay for even though I have never seen it directly mentioned (unless they added it to the terms of service without informing me, I thought that changes had to be highlighted)?

It will be in the T&C and they will claim you were notified if you joined before it was introduced. In fact the chances are that you were and like 99% of people didn't read the letter or email. If you joined after then not reading the T&C properly doesn't mean you don't have to pay.

You only have to pay a disconnection charge if you cancel the service and not if you request a MAC to move to another ADSL ISP. Why are you cancelling?
  • I am in student accommodation and the new tenants have mobile broadband. It really gets on my nerves how I have to spend even more money that I don't have. Last night I went through the plus.net help pages on their website about cancelling the service and again I saw no mention of a charge.

It's a charge that BT Openreach levy on the ADSL providers. Some absorb it but most, like Plus net, pass it on to the user

  • Looks like another £25 to spend, that I don't have. :(
